Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the example of Paul’s intercessory prayer in Colossians 1:9-14. This is a good prayer for me to use when praying for my children, grandchildren, loved ones, and friends. Thank you for my loved ones, because they are a real joy and blessing to me. I ask You to direct them not only to learn more about You, but to apply and live according to the insight You want to give them. Give them spiritual understanding about Your will for their life. Verse 9: “For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” May they comprehend that being able to fully understand God’s will and sense of direction is the most important undertaking for them.
I ask that You direct them to desire a quality of life that would be pleasing to You, and that they understand that they are an extension of Jesus’ life when He was here on earth. Verse 10a: “That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work.” Teach them to joyfully live according to Your spiritual power and not try to do things in their own power. Verse 11: “Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy.” Encourage them to daily practice verse 12: “Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.“
Show any of them who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that this decision has to be made first in order for any of this prayer to work for them. Amen.
