Renewal of the Mind

Lord, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the promise and encouragement in 2 Corinthians 4:16b. “Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.”

Awesomeness of the Human Body

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the wonder of the human body. “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” Psalm 139:14a.

Deliverance from Evil

Heavenly Father, I come in Your Son’s Name to ask You to always guide me away from evil, as it is expressed in Psalm 141:4. “Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men who work iniquity; and do not let me eat of their delicacies.”

Jesus as Mediator

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, and thereby allowing me to approach You. 1 Timothy 2:5-6 “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

Reaping What We Sow

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to ask You to enable me to practice the second part of Galatians 6:8 and refrain from doing the first part. “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”

Sufficiency of God’s Grace

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for Your promise of grace expressed in 2 Corinthians 12:9. Jesus said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Experiencing the Blessing of New Life in Christ

Loving Father, I come in in the Name of Your Son Jesus to give You praise and thanks for the blessing of new life in Christ. Through my spiritual rebirth I have become a new creation. I no longer have to live under the weight of sin, but can live in righteousness. Romans 6:11Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” I appreciate that now that Christ is living in me, I can have Your life flow through me, and Your love and power will completely engulf my previous life. 2 Corinthians 5:17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” I ask for forgiveness for the times I find myself asking for Your power or strength like it is far away instead of acknowledging that Your power and love is already dwelling within me by the means of the Holy Spirit.

Your Holy Spirit is alive in me and gives me access to immeasurable power and wisdom. Teach me to depend on Your strength and adequacy, and not my own inadequacy. It is You alone that provides the framework from which I have the privilege to extend Your love to others and show them Your love and great power. Thank you that when I am tempted to think or do wrong by the enemy of my soul, I can quote Your Word to him and remind him that my life is now based on all that is encompassed in Galatians 2:20. “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Thank you for allowing me to bring this prayer in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

2019 Easter Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Your risen, living Son Jesus to give You praise and thanksgiving for this Easter celebration and for the atoning death on the cross of Your spotless Son. In addition to taking my place on the cross, You accepted the fate that should have been mine, and bore the punishment of death for my sin, allowing me to be set free. Philippians 2:8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”

How wonderful it is that the Easter story does not end with Jesus’ death. It also shows the resurrection power of God. Mathew 28:5-6aBut the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen.‘”

Thank you for providing a way to overcome the power of sin. Simply by my accepting and believing in Jesus as Savior, You have given me the righteousness of God through the saving work of Your Son. 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Direct me to comprehend and appreciate the true meaning of all that happened as we celebrate this special day of Easter. It is no small thing that Jesus traded the immeasurable worth of His righteousness for something as worthless as man’s sin.

In Jesus’ Name, I thank You for all the blessings this Easter season brings to mind, Amen.

God Listens to Those Who Call

Heavenly Father, I come in the Name of Jesus to thank You for Your presence in my life. I appreciate the fact that You always listen when I call out Your Name. In times of trouble, I can rely on You to be there no matter how insignificant I may feel at the time or how insignificant my problems may seem compared to the problems of others. You not only hear me, but act upon my prayers in Your sovereign timing. Psalm 34:17The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

You know the desires and the inner workings of my heart, and I am trusting that You know what is best. Even when things are not going as I had planned, You are still there and listening. Sometimes You are silent, but I know that it is not from a lack of caring. Rather, it may be a way of getting my attention. Teach me to be patient in times of silence and wait to hear from You. Micah 7:7Therefore I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.

I recognize that it is only through the work of Jesus dying on the cross and His resurrection and saving grace that I can be seen as righteous in Your eyes. 1 Peter 3:12aFor the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers.” It is such a blessing to have the privilege of learning from Your Word (The Bible) and communicating with You in prayer.

Thank You for allowing me to bring these thoughts to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Drawing Close to God

Lord, I come to You today in the Name of Your Son Jesus. Thank you for the instruction in Your Word about how if I draw close to You, You will draw close to me. “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-mindedJames 4:8. I realize from this verse and many others that You want to draw close to me and have a personal relationship with me.

Remind me daily that one of my greatest needs for developing closeness with You, in addition to reading my Bible and praying, is to have very short accounts with regard to sin. You tell me in Psalm 66:18 that if I do not take care of sin in my life, You do not even hear me. “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear.”

Thank you for providing a way in 1 John 1:9 for me to be able to clear up my communication line with You. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Direct me to always have an open line of communication with You. Show me through Your Word and prayer how You can direct me onto the straight path of righteousness.

I ask that 2 Corinthians 2:14 will always be true in my life. “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

Thank you that I can bring this prayer in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer Based on Psalm 27

Lord, in Jesus’ Name, I thank You for being my light, my salvation, and my strength in this dark world. Though some may come against me to try to make me anxious, or even destroy me, You have promised that You will not allow that to happen. Verse 1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Like David, I ask that You will direct me to constantly seek after You so that I will be able to enjoy my relationship with You continually.

Do not hide Your face from me when I cry out to You for help, but answer me with Your mercy and grace. Verse 5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.”

Father, give me a teachable spirit, then lead me on the path of righteousness laid out in Your Holy Word. Sometimes, waiting for answers is very difficult, especially if there is a long time frame involved. It can seem as if You do not see the urgency of my situation. Forgive me for that kind of thinking because it implies that You are not in control. Instead, help me to see waiting time as a tool that You use to teach me about the many blessings You have for me. Make real in my life Your words in Verse 14. “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!

I bring this prayer in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Utilizing the Power of Scripture

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”

If you ever have negative and destructive thoughts come into your mind when you are trying to pray, or at any other time, try this:

Read or quote Galatians 2:20 until the thought disappears. “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Meditating on this verse or other verses will help you to refocus on God instead of your negative thoughts. Committing Scriptures to memory will also be useful as you do this.

Here are some other verses you could use:

Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

1 John 4:4 “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

Romans 12:19 “…”Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.”

“One way to recollect the mind easily in the time of prayer, and preserve it more in tranquility, is not to let it wander too far at other times.” ~From the book The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence

Giving Praise and Thanks to God for Scripture Promises

*** After each verse, think about the main point made and then give thanks to God ***

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the many Scripture promises in Your Bible.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Psalm 103:8-10 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Lamentations 3:22-23 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.

Lord, I appreciate these promises in Your Word, just a few among many. Every promise in the book is mine. Therefore, I bring my praise to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Lord, I come to You through the Name of Jesus to thank You for all the instruction You give in the Bible about the words that I use to communicate. I know the words that I speak can have a tremendous negative or positive effect on those around me. In light of what Proverbs 18:21 says, “death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit,” I ask You to forgive me of the sin that at times comes from my lips. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1 John 1:9.

Give me the wisdom and strength to be more careful with the words that I use to express myself. Teach me to use the power of words wisely to better reflect You to the world. Show me how to “walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you should answer each one” Colossians 4:5-6. Direct me to allow Psalm 19:14a to be true in my life. “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight.”

In light of the great power and impact my words may have on someone, I ask just like David did that You would “set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lipsPsalm 141:3.

Thank you that I can bring this prayer in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
