Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ powerful Name to thank You for His sacrifice on the cross for me. Thank you that He rose again on the third day and washed me clean from my sin, freeing me from being enslaved to it. Romans 6:6-7 Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.

You promise in John 8:32 that You will allow me to know and understand Your truth. “‘And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. You make Your truth clear in Your Word, the Bible, especially the truth of salvation in Christ alone through faith alone. John 14:6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’

Through Your Son, You have bridged the gap between my sin and Your holiness. Ephesians 2:13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” This grace is not limited to select groups of people, but is available as a free gift to all who accept it. Direct me to never lose sight of Jesus as the way, the truth, the life, and reassurance of my salvation. Thank you that all who have not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior can do so freely. Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Doing Difficult Tasks (Based on the Book of Nehemiah)

Heavenly Father, in the Lord Jesus’ Name, I thank You for providing in the Bible the example of Nehemiah’s prayer life. He accomplished something that seemed like an impossible task. He prayed 11 times and was successful with answers for building the wall in 52 days. This is a good example for me to see what can be done when God is directing those who honor Him. The first lesson shown is that after Nehemiah saw the stress and devastation his people went through, he didn’t just got to work with his own abilities and skills, but he developed a prayerful and deliberate plan for rebuilding the wall. He set everything else aside to spend time with God for direction and wisdom. Nehemiah 1:4So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.”

You make it clear in another of his prayers that Nehemiah was sensitive to the fact that sin had to be confessed before expecting God to work.  Nehemiah 1:6…I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned.”

Thank you for sharing Nehemiah’s eight examples of spontaneous, emergency telegram prayers to Heaven, which he was able to use because he had earlier established a close relationship with You in extended prayer. For example, in Nehemiah 2:4, “Then the King said to me, “What do you request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven” (emphasis added). He needed an immediate answer.

It is a blessing that You recorded the examples of Nehemiah’s prayers, consisting of praise, thanksgiving, repentance, specific requests, and commitment. Direct me to develop and follow the pattern of his praying. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Brevity of Life

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, I ask for what is expressed in Psalm 39:12.  “Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry; do not be silent at my tears; for I am a stranger with You, a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

Guardian Against Personal Destruction

All loving and wise Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, direct me to obey Proverbs 7:1-2. “My son, keep my words, and treasure my commands within you. Keep my commands and live, and my law as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

God’s Forever Guidance

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the promise in Psalm 48:14. “For this is God, our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death.”

Comprehensiveness of the Gospel

All-encompassing Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the completeness of the Gospel. 1 Thessalonians 1:5For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

Forgiveness and Cleansing

Forgiving Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, like David, I ask for Psalm 51:1-2. “Have mercy upon me , O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

God Hears from Everywhere

Jonah 2:1-2aThen Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish’s belly. And he said: “I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, and He answered me.'”

God’s Instruction for Christian Living Expressed by Paul (Based on Colossians 3:12-17)

All wise Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus Christ to give You thanks for instructing me on how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ.  You make it very clear in this portion of Scripture that I need to have a forgiving spirit toward anyone who has wronged me. Direct me to forgive in light of Your Son’s ultimate sacrifice on the cross for my sins.  Thank you for providing Your Son as a living symbol of Your unlimited forgiveness. Verse 13: “Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”

Direct me to draw my attention to Your Word and allow You to teach and shape me into the vessel You want me to be. Verse 16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Above all else, show me how to meet the needs of brothers and sisters in Christ with an attitude of love. You want me to work together with other believers for Your honor and glory, regardless of our differences of opinion at times. Verse 14: “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” Lord, it is such a blessing that I do not have to figure out on my own how to live the Christian life, but can do it by the direction of Your Word.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
