Prayer About Gaining All the Benefits from Our Trials (based on James 1:2-11)

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the encouragement found in James 1:2-11. Some of us are broken and tired after the various trials and difficulties of 2021. We need Your provision and uplifting hand as we go through the next year.

We are distinctly reminded each day of how far we have fallen from Your perfect plan. It is plain to see the devastation sin has caused in the world. As hard as it may be, I ask You to remind me, in difficulties and trials, that they are not in vain because You are always working everything together for ultimate good. Direct me to meditate on verses 2-3 as to what You are trying to accomplish. “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.”

I ask You to give me the wisdom and strength to see through the momentary pain and disappointments at any present circumstance, and give me lasting and true patience to experience verse 4b. “That you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” Shift my perspective this coming year to look for the spiritual benefits in going through trials. Show me how You are working through them for my good and how I can look at my trials leading to joy. In Jesus’ Name, thank you for this helpful teaching. Amen.

Going Forward Under the Control and Power of the Holy Spirit (Based on Galatians 5:16-26)

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you that at the time I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, You placed the Holy Spirit within me. 1 Corinthians 3:16Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” Your Word in the Bible tells me that even after I became a Christian, I still have my old nature working against my new. What a wonderful blessing it is, though, that the Holy Spirit will always overpower my old ways, if I allow Him to. Galatians 5:16I say then: Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Since I will always have evil and natural desires, I ask you to make me sensitive to them and direct me to practice daily committing my sinful tendencies to the Holy Spirit’s control and practice Galatians 5:24. “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” It is my desire to live Galatians 5:25.”If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Therefore, thank you that I can know that I am under the control of the Holy Spirit by checking my conduct against Galatians 5:22-23a. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” Thank you for the clear instruction on how to live a new life in Christ. Amen.

Dwelling in the Rest That God Provides (Based on Hebrews 4:1-12)

Loving Heavenly Father, I come into Your presence, which was made possible through Your Son Jesus Christ’s Name. In a world filled with chaos and distractions, I thank You and marvel at the stillness and rest that Your presence brings to believers in Jesus Christ. Your presence is the place of peace that I desire and long for. Verse 9: “There remains therefore a rest for the people of God.” It is a blessing that I do not have to wait until my life in Heaven to enjoy Your rest and peace. It is something I can enjoy now. Despite the circumstances I may be facing, I can always turn to You to find peace and comfort.

Direct me to have a heart and mind to be obedient to You and Your Word so that I may find true rest in Your perfect plan for me. Keep me on the right track so that I do not fall into the example of unbelief the Israelites had and the consequences they had to suffer. Verse 11: “Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

Remind me constantly that it is utilizing the power of Your Word that allows me to develop a life that is resting in You. It is Your Word that is living, powerful, life changing, and discerns both good and evil. Verse 12: “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two- edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is the discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Thank you for providing a way for me to shape my life to be filled with rest, peace, and joy simply by accepting the rest You provide. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Trusting God to be in Control of Everything (Based on Romans 8:28)

All wise and powerful Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, as I live in these uncertain and chaotic times, thank you for the encouragement expressed in the Bible in Romans 8:28. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” It is a blessing that You make it clear that this verse is a divine promise written to all believers in Jesus Christ (“to those who love God”). It includes everything from the smallest to the largest issues in life (“all”).

With so many heartaches and difficult things happening throughout life, I ask You to give me grace to accept that You are sovereign and that You will turn everything around for my long-term good. Colossians 1:17And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” Give me a clear understanding that You are not necessarily working in my life to make me happy, but to fulfill Your purpose (“according to His purpose”), and that You not only want me to believe things about You, but to fully believe and trust in You.

Thank you that in light of this verse, I can rest assured that there is nothing, nor will there ever be anything, in my life that surprises You. Therefore, as hard as it may be sometimes, direct me not to try to be in control, but to receive everything with thanksgiving and praise. Ephesians 5:20Giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Amen.

Insert your graduate’s name in this prayer

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for bringing (graduate’s name) through the last few years in a very difficult time with all the confusion and chaos of the Coronavirus. In spite of all the changes with online learning, etc., You have given to (graduate’s name) the ability to learn all that is required to be a graduate.

Thank you for the parents, loved ones, teachers, and friends who have had a part in this accomplishment. Proverbs 24:6…and in a multitude of counselors there is safety.” I ask You to encourage (graduate’s name) to take all the knowledge acquired in school and use it wisely for Your honor and glory.

Direct him or her to realize that a relationship with Jesus Christ is basic to all future learning of the skills needed for being successful and for developing in the spiritual realm of life. It is a lifetime challenge, joy, and blessing.

I know that there are many challenges and tests ahead for (graduate’s name). I ask not that You spare him/her from all these events, but that You would show him/her how to cling to You through the ups and downs of life. Teach him/her to look to Your Word for answers, and not to the demeaning answers this world provides. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” Ephesians 6:12.

Show (graduate’s name) that as he/she starts through the many phases of life that “…with God all things are possible” Matthew 19:26b. Thank you that by following God’s ways and receiving His power any and all obstacles can be overcome.

I bring this payer in Jesus’ wonderful and powerful Name, Amen.

Prayer About Valentine’s Day as a Reminder of God’s Love

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Loving Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the reminder this Valentine’s season gives about love. In spite of the joy of seeing so much around us about love made up of cards, flowers, teddy bears, and candy, it does not come close to the genuine, lasting love You have for us.

Your Word, the Bible, has many expressions about how much You love Your children. The ultimate expression is found in John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

So many times, my love is conditional. How great it is that Your love is unconditional. It is not based on who I am or what I say or do. I could not earn Your love no matter how hard I tried. It is wonderful that Your love is based on Your unfailing character. Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

It is Your love for me, and the Holy Spirit dwelling in me, which allows me to have the privilege of loving others with a genuine love as expressed in John 13:34. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”

Thank you for the many Scripture passages in the Bible like 1 Corinthians 13 that give direction on what Christ’s love through me can and should look like. You point out in the Bible that there are many spiritual gifts, but love is one that we all have and should demonstrate.

As I go out in the world and see many different expressions of love, direct me to always put far more focus on Your love.

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for the powerful message in this little chorus: “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.” Amen.

Prayer from Hebrews 12:1-13 About Accepting God’s Discipline as Part of His Love

Loving Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for Your multifaceted role as my Heavenly Father. Often I see You as Redeemer, Savior, and Friend, which is important and true about You. However, just as an earthly father does, You desire to be a big part of my life when it comes to directing and correcting me to do what is ultimately best for me.

Sometimes it can be difficult to see how You use problems and hardships as a loving correction rather than what sometimes seems like purposeless pain. Hebrews 12:6-7For whom the LORD loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.” If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?

I ask that You develop in me a good perspective of what is expressed in verse 11 about my times of trial and correction. May I accept it gratefully as the appropriate response toward a loving Heavenly Father. “Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

As difficult as some of these situations may be to develop Christian maturity in me, may all of Your loving training for me also be an example of encouragement for believers around me who may be weak and struggling to believe, follow, and mature in Christ.

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for conforming me more and more to the likeness of Jesus through Your loving process. Amen.

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the powerful Name of Jesus to thank You for all the wonderful blessings that come from living a life of faith in You. I am comforted when I am in Your arms. I know that I can rest in Your presence and that You will sustain me and protect me from the evil one. I am grateful for the promise and teaching in Psalm 112, which states that, as a believer, if I respect and reverence You, believe Your promises and gladly obey Your directions, I can expect You to completely take care of me. Psalm 112:1Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who delights greatly in His commandments.

Daily teach me to fear You more and understand the awe of Your greatness. Open my eyes to Your all-encompassing strength, knowledge, presence, love, grace, and mercy. Guide me to rely on You for every need that I have. Philippians 4:19And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” It is a great blessing to know that if I completely trust in You, You will take care of me. My fears will subside…even the fear of death. Thank you that faith, respect, and obedience to God will lead to a blessed life.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
