Intercessory Prayer for Family, Children, and Grandchildren

All wise, all powerful, gracious, and merciful Heavenly Father, I bring these children, grandchildren and great grandchildren (say their names here) to Your throne of grace. First of all, and most critically, if any of them are not born-again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, encourage them to search their hearts and convict them to take care of this most important relationship with You. 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.  Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? – unless indeed you are disqualified.”

Forgive us as a nation for using our education programs, technology, and media systems to bombard our children (especially the very young) with the evils of the world and asking them to make decisions about things that they are not able to understand. I ask that You be near and direct parents to be very serious in teaching their children how to discern, biblically, right from wrong and know what is evil. James 1:5If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

Encourage those of us that are older – parents, grandparents, and great grandparents – to take very seriously the role of being an intercessory prayer warrior for our loved ones with this example prayer from Ephesians 1:17-18a. “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling.

I ask that You raise up a revival in our Christian young people and an awakening in those who do not have a relationship with You. Give them a desire in their hearts to want to live with and for You to change the culture and resist the schemes of the evil one. Thank you that I can call on You who is all-wise, everywhere present, and powerful.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Prayer About Jesus as the Light of the World (Based on John 8:12)

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Merciful, gracious Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for sending Your Son Jesus and exalting His Name above every other name. It is because of Him being the light of the world and what that represents (knowledge of God’s glory and holiness) and my personal relationship with Him that I do not have to be fearful of living in this uncertain and evil world. In John 8:12, Jesus said, “‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

Thank you that darkness (things representing evil and sin) can never overcome or extinguish the light of Jesus (representing everything that is true and good). You express in Your Word that if I follow Jesus and Your Word, I can avoid walking blindly and falling into constant sin. If I ask and allow Him (Jesus) to shine in my life, I will never stumble in the darkness of this world. You will always give me just enough light for the step I am on.  John 12:46 “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.

Since it is such a great blessing to have the Light (Jesus) dwelling within me, direct me to live in such a way that I reflect God’s glory. You say in Your Word that You intend for the people of the world to be able to see You by the actions of Your children. Mathew 5:16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” It is my desire that it may be obvious by my life that I belong to the Lord Jesus Christ, and that anything I do is for the glory of God.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About Considering God’s Word as a Compass (Based on Proverbs 3:1-12)

Photo taken in Florida.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

All wise Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ powerful Name, thank you for the illustration about the functioning of a compass and Your Word. Just like a compass always leads to true North, Your Word always leads to truth and the right direction. John 17:17Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” Direct me to use Your Word the same way I use a compass: to fully trust in its accuracy and not ignore it to go my own way. Proverbs 3:5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.

Show me how, just as I need to be obedient to follow the directions a compass gives, to be obedient to what Your Word tells me. Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Forgive me for the times I do not daily follow Your compass (the Bible) by storing Your Word in my heart and mind as a deterrent to sin. Keep reminding me that Your Word, the Bible, is the only sure guide for living a pure life.

Thank you for expressing in Proverbs 3:1-2 that following Your compass (Your Word) will make life better and more peaceful. “My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands; for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you.” It is a blessing to know that while a physical compass can break and give wrong directions, You and Your Word are infallible. Hebrews 13:8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About God’s Direction When in the Midst of Fear and Anxiety (Based on Psalm 56)

Photo taken in Florida.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Helpful, comforting Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ powerful Name, thank you for seeing me and hearing my cries. Your Word, the Bible, tells me in Psalm 56:8, “You number my wanderings; put my tears into Your bottle; are they not in Your book?” It is a great comfort when I struggle with fear and anxiety in uncertain and difficult circumstances to know that You promise to always be with me.

Encourage me in difficult times to follow David’s example in verses 3-4. “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word), in God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?” I ask You to teach me the principles of trusting in You at all times and circumstances, not only in fear and anxiety or when the path is unclear. I accept your longing to give me, with love and wisdom, what You have written down in Your Word. Psalm 32:8I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.

Since I am living in such times of chaos and uncertainty, direct me to hold on to the truth in Deuteronomy 31:6 that God gave to Israel in their time of crisis. “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the one who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Resting in this promise in every part of life will allow me to step boldly into the unknown to face the challenges ahead that so many times cause me fear and anxiety.

Thank you for how You and Your Word calm anxious hearts and give peace that surpasses all understanding. John 14:27Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

2023 Father’s Day Prayer (Based on Psalm 103:13)

Photo taken in Canada.

Author: Ali, Contributors: Elton Streyle and Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Lord, I come to You this Father’s Day to thank You for my earthly father, and to thank You for being my perfect Heavenly Father. I praise You for the ways my earthly father has pointed me toward You through his positive relationship with You.

Fathers are intended to reflect Your love to their children. Psalm 103:13 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him” (ESV). I praise You that my father has shown me the compassion described in this verse. If someone’s father has not treated them compassionately, I ask for Your healing, comfort, and perspective on the situation.

Regardless of how my earthly Father has provided for me, I know that I can rely on You to always provide for me. Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” You are the source of every good thing about my father or father figure. James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” Encourage the fathers I know to develop their relationship with You in such a way that their children can follow in their footsteps and glorify You.

If your father is deceased, ask God to give you positive memories of him.

Thank you for loving me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About Living and Walking with the Holy Spirit (Based on Galatians 5:16)

Photo taken in Florida.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You that I have all that You are dwelling inside of me through the work of the Holy Spirit. You arranged for me to live in and with the Holy Spirit at the time of my salvation, and because of that I can walk in the Spirit in all aspects of my life. Your Bible tells me that receiving the Holy Spirit is a onetime event at salvation, but being filled with and walking in the Spirit to oppose the flesh is a lifelong process. Galatians 5:25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Your Word makes it clear that I can only walk in the Spirit and have a God-consciousness in everything I do by letting Your Holy Spirit take Your Word and truth and apply it to me.  In addition, I must be obedient to what He tells me to do and walk in the light so that I do not stumble in this evil world. Psalm 119:105Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Since Your Spirit ignites the knowledge of Your Bible, direct me to read it and invite Him to use it to transform my life for what You have for me. Encourage me to spend regular time with You in prayer while reading Your Bible so that You can put in my mind all that You have for me for that day.

Probably the most important is that You direct me to be obedient to what is expressed in James 1:22. “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Show me through my behavior and attitude how I am doing with living according to the nature of Christ and the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23a. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Teach me Your ways and give me understanding. Thank you for the blessing of having the Holy Spirit empower me to control and overcome the many evil desires of my flesh. I praise You in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About God’s Amazing Grace (Based on Hebrews 4:16)

Photo taken in Florida.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Gracious Heavenly Father, I come in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ to thank You for the promise in Hebrews 4:16. “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy [I don’t get what I deserve] and find grace [I get what I don’t deserve] to help in time of need.” It is a blessing that You encourage me to come to the throne of grace just as I am, and not only if I am worthy or because of any right actions I may take. It is completely because of my born-again relationship with Your Son, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for my sins.

Thank you that because of Your grace, there is nothing I have done or can do in the future that will affect Your wonderful love for me. In fact, Your love is beyond measure. Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, said in Romans 8:38-39 “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Remind me often to share about the many things of grace You have given me. You want me to extend Your grace to others even If I think they do not deserve it. Thank you for Your many verses of Scripture in Your Word, the Bible, that tell about the functioning of Your grace. This teaching gives me enabling power to do and be what You want me to be, as well as forgiveness and the renewal of my mind. The greatest part of Your gift of grace is that it is always enough, even when at times it does not seem like it. As You told Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9a about his problem, “‘My grace is sufficient for you.’” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

2023 Graduation Prayer for Self (if Recent Graduate), Loved One, or Friend

Author: Ali, Contributors: Elton Streyle and Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Sovereign Lord, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to praise You for enabling (student’s name ____) to put in the hard work required to graduate. You say in Scripture, “whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to menColossians 3:23. Working hard not only helps graduates succeed, it also lets them bring glory and honor to You.

Remind them that whatever intelligence and work ethic was accomplished is a gift from You. Even though this season of school has ended, direct the graduates not to stop growing in godly knowledge. Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

I thank You for all those who have come alongside the graduates to instruct them, and for the way You have given them the wisdom to discern truth from lies. As the graduates continue to grow in spiritual maturity in this new season of life, they will encounter more situations to test their discernment. I pray that You continue to enable them to make wise, godly decisions. Proverbs 2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Thank you for the excitement that comes with graduation. Encourage the graduates to trust You in the nervousness that comes with it.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About God’s Gracious Assistance (Based on Psalm 146)

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Gracious Heavenly Father, I come to You through the Name of Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to bring You praise, honor, and glory. My hope (certainty) is in You, for there is no other solid ground than that of Your Word, which is truth. All other places that I could put my trust are just illusions of the evil one, meant to trap me in false hope. Verse 5-6: “Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them; who keeps truth forever.”

Forgive me for the times when I seem to be feeling distant from You and have difficulty trusting in You and Your Word, therefore seeking comfort and help in the things of this world. Direct me to heed the warning in Verse 3. “Do not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.” I ask that through daily meditation on Your Word and communicating with You through prayer, You will teach me how to put all my hope and trust in You. It is Your all-knowing, powerful omnipresence and assistance that gives me the confidence to live my life boldly for the kingdom, never having to be afraid; I know You go before me.

Thank you that while assistance from man is temporal and unstable, assistance from You is lasting and complete. As I look at this Psalm and see who You are and what You do, encourage me to practice what the end of Verse 10 directs. “The LORD shall reign forever- Your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD!” (emphasis added).

In the powerful Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer About the Brevity of Life (Based on James 4:14)

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ with a solemn heart. Try as I might to live in the brevity of life, I am often reminded in Your Word, the Bible, and by the death of a colleague, acquaintance, or loved one just how fleeting life truly is. James 4:14Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Direct me to recognize that this sense of life’s brevity can quickly change to an attitude of nihilism (the belief that life is meaningless) if I leave it unchecked. Thank you that like David in Psalm 38:15, I can cry out to You and be greatly encouraged. “For in You, O LORD, I hope; [Your assurance:] You will hear, O LORD my God.” It is You who provides purpose to my existence and meaning to my life. You have provided salvation for me, which is a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.  It is because of His birth, death, and resurrection that I now have hope (assurance) for living this short life on Earth, and then eternal life with You in heaven.  Jesus said: “That whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

It is a great blessing that during this short time on Earth, You provide the gifts of purpose and meaning for me. These can only be found in You. Since life on Earth is very short in comparison to eternity, direct me to use the little time I have wisely and for eternal good. Show me how to follow what Moses expressed in Psalm 90:12. “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Thank you for hope (assurance), encouragement, and Your instruction that what is done today matters for eternity. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
