Heavenly Father, I come to You through the Name of Jesus my Savior to bring You praise and honor. You are worthy of all the praise I have, and deserve nothing less. Psalm 150:6a “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.“
One of the ways You want me to show honor to You is by honoring and respecting those You have put in authority over me (church, family, police, government, etc.). Romans 13:1-2a “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God.“
You have put many verses in Your Word (the Bible) about how I am to respect the authority of people over me and that it is for my own good. Even if I do not necessarily like or agree with the person, I still need to honor the office the person holds. Therefore, I ask that You direct me to have a spirit of honor and respect for all those who are in authority over me.
Let my love for You overcome my negative feelings toward any kind of authority. Instead, encourage me to pray for them to be the kind of leader you want them to be. Show me how to extend this respect and honor not just to those in authority, but to everyone I associate with. 1 Peter 5:5b “Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”‘
In Jesus’ Name, thank you for all these instructions. Amen.
