Prayer About the Spirit of Honor

Heavenly Father, I come to You through the Name of Jesus my Savior to bring You praise and honor. You are worthy of all the praise I have, and deserve nothing less. Psalm 150:6aLet everything that has breath praise the LORD.

One of the ways You want me to show honor to You is by honoring and respecting those You have put in authority over me (church, family, police, government, etc.). Romans 13:1-2aLet every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God.

You have put many verses in Your Word (the Bible) about how I am to respect the authority of people over me and that it is for my own good. Even if I do not necessarily like or agree with the person, I still need to honor the office the person holds. Therefore, I ask that You direct me to have a spirit of honor and respect for all those who are in authority over me.

Let my love for You overcome my negative feelings toward any kind of authority. Instead, encourage me to pray for them to be the kind of leader you want them to be. Show me how to extend this respect and honor not just to those in authority, but to everyone I associate with. 1 Peter 5:5b “Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for all these instructions. Amen.

Prayer for 2018 Election

Photo taken in Nebraska.

All-powerful and wise Heavenly Father, we come in Jesus’ Name as we approach the upcoming election, being reminded of 2 Chronicles 7:14. “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” I realize that this verse in the Old Testament was referring to Israel, but many of the truths in it are applicable to America today.

As Your children, remind us daily that it is our responsibility to cry out to You and seek Your face, both individually and as a nation. We need to constantly seek forgiveness from our wicked ways. This could be the most important election in the history of our country in order for us to keep the freedoms we enjoy. You tell us in James 1:5, “if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

In light of this verse, we ask that You will give us an understanding in this coming election that there is no perfect candidate running and that there never has been and never will be. The only perfect ruler is Jesus and He is in Heaven. Direct us to look at the positions of each candidate and make wise decisions as we vote. Show us how to base our decisions not on the superficial, but on the biblical principles you lay out in your Word.

Thank you for allowing us to have a free nation so that we can have a part in selecting our leaders and approving some of the laws of our land. We ask that You pour out Your mercy and grace on our country so that we can continue to be blessed as “America the Beautiful.” No matter what the result ends up being, remind us that You are still on the throne. Let us not forget the truth found in Psalm 34:7 “The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them” (NIV). We bring this request in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Election Prayer

All-powerful and wise Heavenly Father, as we approach the upcoming election, I am reminded of 2 Chronicles 7:14If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

I realize that this verse in the Old Testament was referring to Israel, but many of the truths in it are applicable to America today. As Your children, remind us daily that it is our responsibility to cry out to you and seek Your face, both individually and as a nation, for forgiveness from our wicked ways. You tell us in James 1:5If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given him.

In light of this verse, we ask that You will give us an understanding in this coming election that there is no perfect candidate running and that there never has been. The only perfect one is Jesus and He is in Heaven. Make it clear to us how You want us to vote to fill all of the positions in our government as well as how you want us to vote on all the other issues on the ballot.

Thank you for allowing us to have a free nation so that we can have a part in selecting our leaders and approving some of the laws of our land. We ask that You pour out Your mercy and grace on our country so that we can continue to be blessed as “America The Beautiful.”  Remind us continually that You are still on the throne. Also remind us of what You tell us in Psalm 34:7The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them” (NIV).

We bring this request in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
