Perfect Heavenly Father, I come to You through the Name of Your Son Jesus Christ to express my gratitude for the father or father-figures You have provided in my life. If he is deceased, thank you for my memory of him. Thank you for the wisdom I have gleaned from my father, and how he has set an example for me in following You. If my father is not a believer, please use me or other believers in his life to bring him to You.

Just as You have designed mothers to reflect Your character to their children, You have designed fathers to do the same. Psalm 103:13 (ESV) As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.” Thank you that even the discipline from my father is a result of his love for me. Proverbs 3:11My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction; for whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights.” If this is not the motivation behind a father’s discipline, I ask that You would transform him to be more like You in this area.

Thank you for these specific attributes of my father: [insert your father’s attributes here]. Direct me to be more intentional about expressing my appreciation to him. If I have a difficult relationship with my father, I ask that Your Spirit would guide us to reconciliation, and if needed, that You would enable me to practice genuine forgiveness towards him.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to thank You for my father and grandfather (and if deceased, for the memory of them). They have done many things for me, and their influence has shaped my life in many ways that I have taken for granted. The most important and critical was to prepare me to desire a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who has reserved for me an eternal home in Heaven and direction for my life now. Proverbs 22:6Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

I realize that not everyone reading this prayer has had a good relationship with their father. For anyone in this situation, encourage them to keep in mind that You as their Father in Heaven have always and will always care for them as Your child. Your love is unconditional and infinite. In Your Word (the Bible), You tell us that You want to have a close relationship with all of us. In fact, You thought so much of us that You gave Your only begotten Son to die on the cross so that we can have that relationship with You. John 3:16For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For every father and grandfather who has this personal relationship with Jesus, You have promised to give the best of Your spiritual blessings. Regardless of our background, teach us as fathers and grandfathers to trust completely in You for Godly wisdom and spiritual guidance to lead and direct our precious loved ones. Remind us always of Your instruction in Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for Your direction. Amen.

Lord, I come to You through the Name of Your Son, Jesus, to bring You praise and thanks on this day to specifically be able honor our fathers and grandfathers. This day is set aside for these men who had or are having a tremendous influence on our lives.

You have created the family to work best with different roles for our fathers and mothers, with You in the center of it all. You are the one who has put the family together. Psalm 127:3Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward.

I want to lift up to You all the fathers and grandfathers that I know in my circle of relationships to ask You to strengthen and encourage them in their relationships with their loved ones. Give them patience and wisdom to lead and guide with Your love. Show them how to effectively follow the instruction in Ephesians 6:4. “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” Have the goal of these fathers and grandfathers be what is expressed in in Proverbs 22:6. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

I acknowledge that some have experienced great pain around the subject of earthly fathers. I ask that You remind them to turn to You, the perfect Father who never fails or lets anyone down. Psalm 46:1-2aGod is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear.

In Jesus’ Name, I ask that You have a mighty movement of Your Spirit in fathers and grandfathers so that families will see what is expressed in Joshua 24:15b. “But for me and my house, we will serve the L0RD.” Amen.

Lord almighty, I come to You today through the Name of Your Son Jesus to praise You for the gift of my earthly father (if deceased, for the memory of him). Thank you for the leadership, courage and protection that my earthly father provides. For I appreciate the opportunity I have today to specifically celebrate my father and recognize him for all the work he has put into my life. I praise you that there are fathers all across the country leading their families according to Your Word. Thank you for enabling these men to live a life honoring to You.

I realize that although Your creation of fathers was perfect in nature, sin has entered and corrupted that perfection. Because of this corruption, many have been left with long-lasting scars and pains from their earthly fathers. Direct those who have had an unpleasant relationship with their father or never knew him, with Your help, to forgive him and cast all their past hurts unto Jesus. 1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

Thank you that no matter how much our earthly fathers may have failed us, You will never fail. Your Word tells in Psalm 27:10 “When my father and mother forsake me, then the LORD will take care of me.” You will always be there, arms wide open, ready to receive me, and that is a promise no one can take away.

I ask that You would teach fathers and future fathers to rely on You for wisdom and strength to lead and instruct their families. Show them how to model their lives and shape their influence to better reflect the example You have given in Your Word.

It is in the perfect Name of Jesus that I pray, Amen.

A Father’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the good influence many of our fathers have had on us. I know that there are some who have not had a good father-child relationship, but what a privilege that we can all have a wonderful relationship with You, our Heavenly Father, regardless of our past. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

As a father and grandfather, I come to You to pour out my heart to You and ask forgiveness for the failures that I have had in being the kind of husband and father that is best for my wife and children.

I realize that I need You to direct me to be the kind of father You want me to be. Develop in me the ability to “trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths” Proverbs 3:5-6.

Thank you that even when things look impossible, all things are possible with You. “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” Matthew 19:26.

I want my family life to be Bible centered. Show me all that I need to learn from Your Word to make this happen. I ask that You work in my children’s hearts and direct them to be accepting of my Biblical approach to being a father and grandfather.

I give You thanks and praise in advance for all that You are going to do. I bring these requests in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
