Praying in Light of God’s Attributes

TRIANGLE

Before praying, meditate on the following attributes of God for a few minutes, then look at your situation or problem and pray in light of some of God’s traits.

1. God is MERCIFUL:

“The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.” Psalm 103:8

“For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him.” Psalm 103:11

2. God is ALL-POWERFUL: 

“Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying, ‘Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?” Jeremiah 32:26-27 (The answer is “no”)

“For with God nothing will be impoissible.” Luke 1:37

3. God is ALL-KNOWING: 

“O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my new ways.” Psalm 139: 1-3 

4. God is EVERYWHERE PRESENT:

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.” Psalm 139:7-8  

5. God is UNCHANGING: 

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 

 

God’s Comfort: “For My yoke is easy…”

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

Heavenly Father, I want to thank You for being the God of all comfort who gives us reassurance in our difficult situations. I am thankful for the privilege of being able to come to You to receive mercy, grace and help in my times of need (Hebrews 4:16).

Lord, encourage me to experience what You have told me in Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

I ask that You would lead me to:

  • Scriptures in Your Word that speak of Your comfort in times of trouble
  • Christian music that exalts Your Name
  • Fellowship with other believers that will encourage me to live for You

Finally Lord, enable me to share the same comfort You have given to me with my children, grandchildren and others in my realm of influence.

I praise You, my God from whom all blessings flow.

The Goodness of God

James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”

Heavenly Father, I praise You for Your wonderful attributes such as being the Creator, all-powerful, all-knowing, everywhere present, unchanging, loving and merciful; for giving me the ability to recognize the good things coming from You: beauty, mercy, kindness, grace and love.

Thank you that You always plan whatever happens in my life for my good even when I can’t begin to comprehend the situation. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

Give me an understanding and appreciation of Your amazing creation. How precisely everything works together to provide not only for human beings, but for all the animals and plants of the earth.

I ask you to raise up powerful voices in our culture to speak about Your Goodness. Direct me on a daily basis to live out Your Goodness as an example to others.

Thank you for the wonderful promise in Psalm 31:19 “How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.” (NLT)

Thank you, Lord, for your goodness.
