Merciful, gracious Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for sending Your Son Jesus and exalting His Name above every other name. It is because of Him being the light of the world and what that represents (knowledge of God’s glory and holiness) and my personal relationship with Him that I do not have to be fearful of living in this uncertain and evil world. In John 8:12, Jesus said, “‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

Thank you that darkness (things representing evil and sin) can never overcome or extinguish the light of Jesus (representing everything that is true and good). You express in Your Word that if I follow Jesus and Your Word, I can avoid walking blindly and falling into constant sin. If I ask and allow Him (Jesus) to shine in my life, I will never stumble in the darkness of this world. You will always give me just enough light for the step I am on.  John 12:46 “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.

Since it is such a great blessing to have the Light (Jesus) dwelling within me, direct me to live in such a way that I reflect God’s glory. You say in Your Word that You intend for the people of the world to be able to see You by the actions of Your children. Mathew 5:16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” It is my desire that it may be obvious by my life that I belong to the Lord Jesus Christ, and that anything I do is for the glory of God.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Jesus as the Good Shepherd (Based on John 10:1-29)

Caring Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, similar to how a sheep comes to its shepherd. Just as a sheep is very dependent on its shepherd for survival, I acknowledge that I have many insufficiencies and am unable to guide myself through all of life’s twist and turns. It is evident that I need You as the Good Shepherd to protect and guide me, just as the shepherd guides his sheep. Verse 10-11: ‘The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.’

Teach me to listen and respond only to Your voice, just as sheep know the voice and respond only to their shepherd. Give me wise discernment to realize when the voice of a stranger, the evil one, is calling and trying to lead me astray.  Thank you that every Christian believer is infinitely valuable in Your eyes. Just like a shepherd helps when one of his sheep is in trouble, You will always seek out any of Your children who are in difficulty to protect them from eternal harm. Direct me to stay close to Your voice and listen and obey when You call. Verse 27: “‘My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.’

It is a great blessing and reassuring message that when I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and became a born-again child of Yours, there is nothing the evil one can do to snatch me away from You and Your love. Jesus said in John 10:28, “And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for being my Savior and Shepherd.

Prayer About Living in the Light of the Lord Jesus Christ (Based on John 8:12)

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the powerful Name of the Lord Jesus Christ to thank You for the light that Jesus brought when He came from Heaven to Earth.  John 8:12 expresses clearly what He is. “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’

Because of what Your Son did on the cross, all have the opportunity to believe and have salvation. When one makes that decision, Jesus lights up every part of life. Thank you for the light Jesus brings to my mind and how He sets me free from intellectual darkness.  When darkness comes, You give just enough light for the road I am on. It is the light of Christ in my mind that gives me understanding and assurance of Your sovereignty.

Thank you that through the work of the Holy Spirt, I have the light of Christ dwelling within me, which gives me all the treasures of God’s wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 2:3In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Put a desire in my heart and mind to always read Your Word, which brightens the light of Jesus within me and exposes all the works of darkness. I ask that the light You have given me not be hidden, but that You give me the courage to shine for Christ for all to see. Matthew 5:16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Since the light of Jesus is the ultimate gift, direct me to never cease to praise and thank You for it, and to share it with everyone I can.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Thanks and Praise to God for What the Names of Jesus Represent

Heavenly Father, I come in the Name of your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to thank You for describing Jesus’ attributes by the Names that He is called in the Bible. All of the Names represent who He is and what He is doing. One of the most critical Names that I am grateful for is what His resurrection means and that He has power over death. Jesus said in John 11:25b, “‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.‘”

Another Name that is a blessing for believers is where You, Jesus, describe yourself as a Vine. You make it clear that without a good relationship with You, we accomplish nothing. We have to be completely dependent on You for spiritual life. John 15:5I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” Thank you for this Name used for Jesus that is simple and easy to relate to.

You also call Yourself “the Bread of Life.” Just as I eat bread to take care of my physical hunger, You invite me to have a daily walk with You to sustain my spiritual life. John 6:35And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.’

It is a blessing as I walk through this dark world, that just as in the Old Testament when the pillar of fire represented God’s presence, protection, and guidance, You (Jesus) represent these same attributes for me today. John 8:12Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

Thank you for the powerful messages represented in these Names, as well as many others in the Bible. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Based on John 14:6)

Author: Ali, Contributor: Elton Streyle and Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ powerful Name to thank You for His sacrifice on the cross for me. Thank you that He rose again on the third day and washed me clean from my sin, freeing me from being enslaved to it. Romans 6:6-7 Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.

You promise in John 8:32 that You will allow me to know and understand Your truth. “‘And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. You make Your truth clear in Your Word, the Bible, especially the truth of salvation in Christ alone through faith alone. John 14:6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’

Through Your Son, You have bridged the gap between my sin and Your holiness. Ephesians 2:13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” This grace is not limited to select groups of people, but is available as a free gift to all who accept it. Direct me to never lose sight of Jesus as the way, the truth, the life, and reassurance of my salvation. Thank you that all who have not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior can do so freely. Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About God Filling Our Emptiness

Photo taken in Yellowstone National Park.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of my Lord Jesus Christ to thank You for how You fill me with spiritual blessings. Romans 15:13Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Even from the beginning of creation, You filled the earth with all that we have. Thank you for the ultimate filling You provide for all who accept Jesus Christ for salvation. John 1:16-17And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

It is a blessing to see in the New Testament that Jesus’ attitude was to fill people with good deeds. When Peter was not catching any fish, You told him what to do and he caught many. Luke 5:6And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.” When food was needed at the Passover feast, Jesus took care of that need too. Matthew 15:36And He [Jesus] took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitude.

Since Jesus is still in the business of filling emptiness with Himself, direct me to be open to all that He has for me. It is a great blessing to be filled with Your Word, Spirit, truth, and the ways of Jesus’ very life. Open my ears to hear You clearly as You guide me in all my decisions. Show me how to always put You first and do away with the activities that weaken my relationship with You.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About Jesus Christ, the Victor Over Satan

All powerful Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the sacrifice Your Son made on the cross on my behalf. This allowed me to be washed by His blood and gives me an opportunity to be in Your presence and to share in the victory of Jesus Christ over Satan.

Colossians 1:12-14Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Living in this chaotic world with evil and sin all around, it is a great privilege to know that there is nothing that can conquer You, and that Jesus has overcome the world.

Jesus, because of my born again relationship with You, and Your gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling within me, I can rely on Your promise in 1 John 4:4. “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in You is greater than he [Satan] who is in the world.

Direct me to constantly open my eyes to see that Your gift of salvation changes everything for me. You have given me purpose, power, and protection through Your work on the cross. Have this truth filter into every part of my life. You are my hope and light. Since Your victory over Satan is the greatest news the earth has ever heard, give me the courage and wisdom to share that news to those around me who are still lost and need You.

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for Your Word, the Bible, that explains all of this good news. Amen.

Prayer About Living in Anticipation of Jesus Christ’s Return

Merciful Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for all the information in Your Word, the Bible, about Jesus’ return to earth. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”

I wait with eager anticipation for that day when You make everything perfect and deliver me from the work of the evil one. What a beautiful day that will be, to see Jesus face to face and be swept into His loving arms.

Direct me to be watchful and ready at all times for His return, because no one knows the day or the time. Matthew 24:36 Jesus said, “but of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”

While waiting for Jesus to arrive, direct me to have my lamps burning and serve You. Give me the strength and wisdom to make this time before Jesus returns effective for Your kingdom. I know You want me to do what I can to invite as many people as possible into the family of God by having them accept Jesus Christ into their life. 1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

Thank You for the great comfort found in the knowledge of Jesus’ second coming. To You God, be the glory for what You have done, are doing, and will do. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Prayer on Living in Unity With Others Through Jesus Christ

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, I thank You for creating me to function best by living in community with others. Direct me how to best accomplish living in oneness in a world that is filled with disunity. I appreciate the apostle Paul’s advice in 1 Corinthians 1:10.Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

It is a privilege to have You put people around me and into my life to shape, mold, test, and encourage me. I appreciate that with the direction of the Holy Spirit, I am able to participate in the wonderful gift of Godly community. Lead me to ask for forgiveness when I complain about the minor inconveniences or things I don’t like about others. Direct me to constantly be willing to practice Colossians 3:13-14a. “Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love.

I know that I can’t achieve the types of relationships You describe in Your Word without Your love and guidance. Give me the strength and perseverance to build strong relationships of unity, and not division. I want to receive what David describes in Psalm 133:1. “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

In Jesus’ wonderful Name, Amen.

Prayer About Jesus as My Watchful Shepherd

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name I thank You for Jesus giving His life for my salvation and being my Good Shepherd. In John 10:11, Jesus said: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.

It is a great blessing to know that after accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior, I belong to You now and for eternity. I have access to all the benefits for living the life that You have laid out in Your Word (Bible).

You also want to watch over me with love and protection just as a shepherd does for his sheep. As a child of Yours, direct me to be able to clearly listen to Your voice just as sheep listen to the voice of their shepherd. John 10:27My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

I am thankful that just like a shepherd supplies all of the needs of his sheep, You promise to supply all my needs according to the plan You have laid out for me in the present and the future. Philippians 4:19And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

It is such a peaceful thought to know that when this life is over and finished with all its sickness, pain, and suffering that I will be dwelling in Your house (Heaven) for eternity. There is no greater joy on this earth to think about than Psalm 23:6bAnd I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

To You be the Glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
