Gift giving Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name I come to You to thank You for the greatest gift ever given. You gave Your only begotten Son to be born on Earth, live a short while, then die on the cross to provide me with salvation and a home in heaven for eternity.
Luke 2:11 “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
John 3:15 That whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

I ask that You forgive me when my focus of Christmas gets out of balance. Sometimes I get distracted from Jesus’ birth by all the beautiful lights, decorations, family, and good food. which all are good. Direct me this year, as I enjoy all of the different ways of celebration, to keep in mind that without Jesus, there would be no Christmas. Remind me often that it is His birthday that is being celebrated.

This year, please give me a deeper understanding and appreciation of what Jesus did for me as expressed in Philippians 2:7-8. “But made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

I ask that You encourage my children, grandchildren, loved ones and friends that in spite of all the chaos, disappointment, heartache, and sorrow, the Christmas story is still the same as always. Amen.

“Joy to the world,
the Lord is come,
let earth receive her King.
Let every heart prepare Him room.”

Heavenly Father, I come to You through the Name of Jesus as one of Your beloved children. What a blessing it is to be called a child of Yours. Galatians 3:26For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” Despite any label I may receive here on Earth, nothing is more important and humbling than to be part of Your family. You treat me as a son or daughter of the King and extend every familial right and privilege to me. Galatians 4:7Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Thank you for being quick to forgive and loving enough to pursue me through my sins and failures. You want what is best for me and do not shy away from loving correction in order to train me in what is good, right, and holy. Hebrews 12:11Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

When I am down, discouraged, or lonely, remind me of the privilege to be called a child of God and of the all-encompassing love that comes with being Your child. Psalm 119:114You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your Word.

Thank you for the little song that expresses it all: “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.” Amen.

Forgiving Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, I thank you for the opportunity to come to You for forgiveness and cleansing. I was covered in sin, but Your Son Jesus Christ, by dying on the cross, shedding His blood, and rising from death, has washed me and given me an eternal home in Heaven.

Until my entrance into Heaven, You daily forgive me of my sin as needed so that I can have the joy of a pure heart. Psalm 32:1-2Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

As the Protector and Deliverer of my heart from the evil one, teach me to be receptive and sensitive to my need for the immediate confession and repentance of any sin that touches my life. It is a great blessing from You that, like David in the Bible, I have the opportunity to put my sin behind me. Psalm 32:5I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Direct me to always be reminded of the serious, damaging affect that sin has on my relationship with You. In fact, You tell me in Psalm 66:18 that if I do not take care of my sin, You do not hear me. “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear.

My desire is to do whatever is necessary to deal with my sin so that I can accept Your longing to guide me with love and wisdom. Psalm 32:8I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for the privilege of being able to have a pure heart and mind. Amen.

Alone with God

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, show me how to have Mathew 6:6 be my main method of prayer. “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Prayer with Thanksgiving and Praise

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, remind me to always remember Psalm 100:4 when I get ready to pray. “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”

Persistence in Prayer

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, direct me to follow the instructions in Luke 18:1. “Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.

Godly Wisdom

All wise Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, encourage me with the wisdom from James 3:17. “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

God Planned for Me

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you that You had a plan for me before I was even born. Jeremiah 1:5aBefore I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you.

Loving One Another

Lord, in Jesus’ Name, direct me to be able to do 1 Peter 1:22. “Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart.

2020 Thanksgiving Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to pray about the theme of Thanksgiving. I thank You for all the normal blessings of food, loved ones, friends, health, etc. However, this Thanksgiving, I want to focus my praise and thanksgiving on items that only You have done and are doing. My ultimate praise and thanksgiving is for my salvation from death and the gift eternal life.

All the many wonderful blessings promised in Your Word (the Bible) are only available to me because of my response to John 5:24. Jesus said: “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgement, but has passed from death into life.

What a blessing it is to know that when I get up in the morning, You are waiting, willing and able to take me through every situation in my life. Lamentations 3:22-23Through the LORD’S mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.

Thank you that as I live this life with its disappointments and struggles, as a child of Yours, none of these things are a waste or a surprise to You. You are loving, sovereign, all powerful, everywhere present, and You have everything work together for my good. Romans 8:28And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Thank you that Your well never runs dry. 2 Corinthians 12:9My grace is sufficient for you.” Thank you for the blessing and peace of forgiveness of sin. 1 John 1:9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Since this is only a fraction of who You are and what You do, I ask You to direct me to practice more of Ephesians 5:20 in the coming year. “Giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Amen.

The Believer’s Gift of God’s Righteousness Through Jesus Christ

Righteous Heavenly Father, I come in Your Son’s Name to thank and praise You that it is through Jesus alone that I am made righteous in Your sight. He met me right where I was and redeemed me from the pit of Hell. He gifted me with His righteousness with no limitations. Philippians 3:9And be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith.

The world tells me that I need to help myself and pull myself up by my bootstraps. Forgive me and correct me when I begin to adopt that attitude in my walk with You.

It is a great blessing that You tell me in Your Word, the Bible, that by Your grace, wisdom, and sanctification I can continually grow in the righteousness that started at the time of my salvation. 2 Timothy 3:16All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

It is a great blessing to know that I can trust in Your righteousness and that it will never change or wear out. Psalm 111:3His work is honorable and glorious, and His righteousness endures forever.

Direct me to recognize and accept my inability to help myself and my desperate need for You to lift me up and sustain me. Psalm 55:22Cast your burdens on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

Thank you, in the glorious, redeeming Name of Jesus. Amen.

Prayer About God’s Enabling Grace in Difficult Times

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, I thank You that as a believer in Jesus’ Christ, I can come to Your throne of grace. Direct me to approach You with the praise and honor You deserve for being my Savior, Good Shepherd, the Way and the Truth of Life, the Light of the World, and many other great attributes. Hebrews 4:16Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

It is a great blessing to have the grace that You provide for me through the atoning death and resurrection of Your Son, Jesus. It is what enables me to depart from a life of sin and shame and step into a life of abundance and love with you. Like Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9, teach me to recognize my limitations and turn to You for direction. This will also allow You to develop Christian character in me. Jesus said to Paul: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.

Encourage me to have the same attitude Paul had in 2 Corinthians 12:9b. “Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” Since You are not surprised with any situation in my life and are in control, direct me not to be surprised and try to be in control myself. Remind me to constantly live out of a place of gratitude and praise for Your loving, merciful, and great grace.

In Jesus’ Name, may You be honored with each day of my life. Amen.

If you do not have this enabling grace and first need to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, we invite you to go the salvation tab on our blog.

Prayer Based on Psalm 25 About Seeking God’s Guidance

All wise Heavenly Father, I come before You in Jesus’ Name to give You thanks for the privilege of trusting in You for every situation in life. I believe what You tell me in Your Word (the Bible), that You are the giver of wisdom and that it is wise for me to seek and live by it.

As David did, direct me to comprehend that You have unlimited power and unrestrained authority over all creation and every individual. Verse 6: “Remember, O LORD, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, for they are from of old.

In light of who You are, I ask that You enlighten me in what is expressed in verse 4: “Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths.” Since I live in a sinful world, being bombarded daily with messages that seek to push me to go my own way, remind me often to look to the truth in verse 14. “The secret of the LORD is with those who fear [respect] Him, and He will show them His covenant.

I know that You have great plans to grow and prosper Your kingdom and glory through each believer. Give me a desire to be a part of that mission and enable me to do whatever part You have for me.

It is a great blessing that You offer to take the worst situation and turn it into something beautiful and positive. Encourage me to do and ask like David did in verses 15 and 16a. “My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for He shall pluck my feet out of the net. Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me.

In Jesus’ Name, I chose to take refuge in You and You alone to guide me. Amen.

Praying for Fellow Believers Using God’s Word

This prayer is an example of using portions of Paul’s prayers in Philippians 1:3-11 and Colossians 1:3-12 for intercessory prayer for others. Think of others as you pray…

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name I thank You for my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and for the unifying spirit that You create between those who love and follow You. Philippians 1:3-5I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now.

Since the Christian life is based on a correct understanding of Your Word the Bible, I pray Philippians 1:9 for my fellow believers: “and this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment.” Your Scriptures in the Bible make it clear that You continually want to shape and mold Your children to be more like You and reflect Your love to the world. Therefore, I ask for the following believers, ____ (insert names here) Philippians 1:10-11. “That you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

As followers of Yours, I ask for myself and those I am interceding for to experience the message of Colossians 1:11. Direct us to be “strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy.” I ask that You teach me how to best love others and lift them up to You in prayer.

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for the role that fellow Christ followers have played in the development of my walk with You. Amen.

Jesus’ Substitutionary Atonement

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for Jesus taking the punishment for my sin. 1 Peter 2:24 says that Jesus, “Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness-by whose stripes you are healed.

The Holy Spirit’s Confirmation of New Birth

Lord, thank you for having the Holy Spirit confirm for me my new birth in Jesus Christ. Romans 8:16-17The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

Living to Receive the Crown of Life

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, direct me to live James 1:12. “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Jesus’ Example of Prayer

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, I ask You to frequently direct me to follow Jesus’ example of prayer in Mark 1:35. “Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.

God’s Good Thoughts About a Believer

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’s Name, thank you for the wonderful promise You give for the believer in Jesus Christ in Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Being a Doer of God’s Word

Loving Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, I ask You to direct me to practice James 1:22.But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
