Prayer About Receiving and Giving God’s Love (Based on 1 John 4:7-11)

Loving Heavenly Father, I come before You in Jesus’ Name, knowing that the only reason I am worthy to be in Your presence is because of the love and sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus. My life was marked by the stain of sin from the moment I was born. I know that apart from Jesus, there is no love and hope. Thank you that when I professed with my mouth and heart to accept and believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior, I was also accepting Your endless love.

Sometimes it is hard to find words to express my joy and gratitude for Your love. I acknowledge that all the love that I have and give to others flows from You. Verse 7: “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.” Direct my relationship with You to be such that I can see the effects of the saving grace that Jesus has brought.

It is clear in the Bible that You love and care for people, otherwise You would not have created the human race. You gave me a free choice because You desire a loving response from Your people. Your love is seen into eternity by giving me, and all your people who have accepted Your Son Jesus Christ, eternal life.

Thank you for giving Your Holy Spirit to dwell in believers and empower us to love others. I ask that You give me a heart more like Yours, always ready to do good for those around me, reflecting the love that You have so generously given. Verse 11: “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.“

In Jesus’ loving Name, Amen.

God’s Gift of Righteousness

Gracious Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the gift of righteousness to all who are born again believers in Jesus Christ. Isaiah 42:6 “I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness, and will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, as a light to the Gentiles.“

The Never Changing God

Stable Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you that even as I change, You and Your Word stay the same year after year. Hebrews 1:12 “Like a cloak You will fold them up, and they will be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will not fail.“

Jesus Suffered for Mankind

Compassionate Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for what Jesus did on the cross. Isaiah 53:5 “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.“

Sin Forgiven and Forgotten

Forgiving Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the promise in Hebrews 10:14 and 17b. “For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified… ‘Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.’“

Sealed by the Holy Spirit

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the work of the Holy Spirit in Ephesians 1:13. “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.“

Nothing is Impossible for God

All powerful Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you that I can rest on the promise in Jeremiah 32:17. “Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for you.“

God My Defender

All Powerful Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for being my defender. Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

Jesus, Example of Prayer

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, in the midst of chaos and confusion, direct me to follow Jesus’ example in Mathew 14:23. “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.”

Enjoying the Peace of God

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, direct me to practice Philippians 4:6-7. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Cleansing from Sin

Forgiving Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you that You will reveal to me any sin that needs forgiveness. Psalm 139:23-24a “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me.”

Thinking Right Thoughts

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, direct me to practice Philippians 4:8. “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.”

Sin’s Power Destroyed

All powerful Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you that as a believer in Jesus, sin has lost its power over me. Romans 6:6 “Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.“
