2 Corinthians 10:4-5 “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”

If you ever have negative and destructive thoughts come into your mind when you are trying to pray, or at any other time, try this:

Read or quote Galatians 2:20 until the thought disappears. “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Meditating on this verse or other verses will help you to refocus on God instead of your negative thoughts. Committing Scriptures to memory will also be useful as you do this.

Here are some other verses you could use:

Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

1 John 4:4 “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

Romans 12:19 “…”Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.”

“One way to recollect the mind easily in the time of prayer, and preserve it more in tranquility, is not to let it wander too far at other times.” ~From the book The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence

New Tab Added- Memorizing Scripture

IMG_0841In our Christian walk with God, in addition to prayer and Bible study, it is important to have Scripture in our mind, ready to use in any situation that may arise. For this reason, we have added a new tab on our blog called Memorizing Scripture. We invite you to look at the information we have put together and use it in any way that would be helpful for you. I come to You in Jesus’ Name, Heavenly Father, to thank You for the light that You give as I walk through dark areas of life. “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” Psalm 119:105. “The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyesPsalm 19:8.

Father, empower me to comprehend the awesomeness of the fact that all Scripture is You speaking to me in written form. “All scripture is God-breathed2 Timothy 3:16.

Direct me to live my spiritual life in the same way as my physical life. Just as I can’t live without physical food each day, I need to have You give me a daily intake of Your Word and a time of quietness to hear from You. “Be still and know that I am your GodPsalm 46:10.

Show me how to mold my opinions and values around You and Your ways, not around the society that I live in. Thank you for putting in Your Word all the direction I need to be able to live a life of peace and joy. “Teach me your way O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name.Psalm 86:11.

Father, thank you for allowing me to bring these praises and requests in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Combining Song, Prayer, and Scripture

Written by Elton Streyle, photography and editing by Ali

This prayer variation combines Scripture with the words of Christian music. After you read a few verses of Scripture, stop and sing or think about the words of a song with the same theme as the verses you read. You can also do the reverse of this by listening to a song, then stopping and thinking of a verse of Scripture that the song brings to your mind.

This way of praying helps you to remember and apply the message of both the Scripture and the song.

Here are some examples:

Proverbs 3:5-6Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

Song: Trust and Obey

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way,

to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.”

_____

Psalm 119:18 Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.”

Song: Open The Eyes Of My Heart, Lord

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord,

open the eyes of my heart,

I want to see You,

I want to see You,

to see You high and lifted up,

shining in the light of Your Glory,

pour out Your power and love

as we sing Holy, Holy, Holy.”

_____

Psalm 139:23-24Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead  me in the way everlasting.

Song: Change My Heart, O God

Change my heart O God, make it ever true,

Change my heart O God,  may I be like You,

You are the potter I am the clay,

mold me and make me this is what I pray.”

_____

Ephesians 5:18And be not drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.”

Song: Spirit Of The Living God

Spirit of the Living God,

fall fresh on me,

melt me, mold me, fill me, use me,

Spirit of the Living God, fall fresh on me.”
