Lord, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the mercy and grace of Your Son. It is because of His sacrifice that I can come boldly to the throne of grace. I praise You for the protection and guidance You provide in Your Word (the Bible) for how to handle the temptations of the evil one. Whatever temptations come my way, You will never forsake me. You promise in 1 Corinthians 10:13, “no temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Lord, I acknowledge that it is not through my own strength that I can resist the temptations of the evil one, but only through You that I can gain victory. Thank you for forgiving me for the times I have failed to realize that it is only through Your Word and my relationship with You that that I can overcome temptation. Ephesians 6:16-18aAbove all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.”

I ask You to guide and lead me to victory in the daily battle against the temptation to sin. Show me how to use Your Word like Jesus did when the tempter came to Him. He said in Mathew 4:4, “‘it is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.“” Thank you for Your encouragement on this topic and for allowing me to come in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

2019 Memorial Day Prayer

Compassionate, all-knowing, Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus to thank You for the memories You have given me of loved ones and friends who have passed on. I appreciate how You have spoken to me through their example and actions while they were living. Proverbs 10:7aThe memory of the righteous is blessed.” On this special day, remind all of us who enjoy freedom and peace that throughout the years many have sacrificed their life fighting for our country. There are still many military members and first responders today who live in danger and in some cases give their lives protecting others.

Direct me to be sympathetic to the families whose loved ones have made the ultimate sacrifice. I ask You to bless the men, women and their families who are currently involved in defending our freedom. (Pray specifically for those you know). Give healing and comfort to the families and loved ones who are recovering from the devastation of war and domestic terror and violence.

Thank you for the greatest memory of all, recorded in the Bible in John 3:16, about Jesus dying on the cross, making a way for all who desire salvation, and how those who believe in Christ will ultimately live in Heaven for eternity. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” I ask You to direct me to reflect on the seriousness of this holiday and how it is not just all about fun and games.

Thank you that I can bring these thoughts in Jesus’ wonderful Name, Amen.

Right Priorities and Encouragement from God for Expanding His Kingdom: A Prayer Based on the Book of Haggai

Lord, I come In Jesus’ Name to thank You for the positive encouragement You gave to Your people in the book of Haggai and how it still applies today. You are constantly pointing us away from evil and turning us back to Your plan. I appreciate the examples of that love throughout this book.

At the start of the book, You tasked Your people with building a new temple, but when the people heard of Your will, they wanted to postpone the work. In Haggai 1:2b the people said, “the time has not come, the time that the LORD’s house should be built.” However, in spite of their apathy, You stirred up the spirit of the people, giving them the will and the strength to build the temple. Haggai 1:14b says, “and they came and worked on the house of the LORD of hosts, their God.”

You will always give us encouragement, direction, and whatever we need to accomplish the mission that You have set out for us to do. Haggai 1:8 ‘”Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified,” says the Lord.

Direct me to learn from the examples in this book and to be sensitive and obedient to anything You are calling me to do, whether it be physical labor, sharing the gospel, discipling, teaching, helping others, prayer or financial generosity. Give me the courage and strength to get involved in the building of your kingdom regardless of the task. Remind me that, like in the book of Haggai, You provide what is needed in every situation to accomplish the task You have given. There are no mental, physical, or financial barriers that You cannot overcome.

In Jesus’ precious Name, Amen.

2019 Mother’s Day Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come into Your Holy presence today through Jesus’ Name to thank You for my mother. I so appreciate the love and selfless compassion she gives and has given in the past. If she has passed on, I give You thanks and praise for the pleasant memories of her. Direct me to honor my mother on this special day.

I am grateful that You gave my mother some of the same attributes found in 1 Corinthians 13 4-7. “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself , is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things hopes all things, endures all things.

I pray for and ask You to remind all mothers-to-be, especially those that are considering abortion, to understand that the child within them is known and created by You and You have a plan for the child’s life. This is expressed in Jeremiah 1:5. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.

Direct all of us as believers to be sensitive to the needs of mothers. May we encourage and help them wherever possible. Thank you for the blessings of a mother’s love, but even more for Your love, which is far greater and provided me with salvation. Romans 5:8But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for the blessing of my mother, Amen.

Renewal of the Mind

Jesus as Mediator

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, and thereby allowing me to approach You. 1 Timothy 2:5-6 “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

Reaping What We Sow

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to ask You to enable me to practice the second part of Galatians 6:8 and refrain from doing the first part. “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”

Sufficiency of God’s Grace

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for Your promise of grace expressed in 2 Corinthians 12:9. Jesus said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
