Lord, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the mercy and grace of Your Son. It is because of His sacrifice that I can come boldly to the throne of grace. I praise You for the protection and guidance You provide in Your Word (the Bible) for how to handle the temptations of the evil one. Whatever temptations come my way, You will never forsake me. You promise in 1 Corinthians 10:13, “no temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
Lord, I acknowledge that it is not through my own strength that I can resist the temptations of the evil one, but only through You that I can gain victory. Thank you for forgiving me for the times I have failed to realize that it is only through Your Word and my relationship with You that that I can overcome temptation. Ephesians 6:16-18a “Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.”
I ask You to guide and lead me to victory in the daily battle against the temptation to sin. Show me how to use Your Word like Jesus did when the tempter came to Him. He said in Mathew 4:4, “‘it is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.“” Thank you for Your encouragement on this topic and for allowing me to come in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
I Corinthians 10:13 my favorite challenge in scriptures. Can’t say I have heeded it every time but it has been a guidance in my life. Always like to hear it referenced to! Hope you and Joyce are enjoying your summer. We are doing well here.
