Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for putting it on the hearts and minds of some freed slaves many years ago to start the tradition of Memorial Day. This holiday is set aside for me to pause and honor those in the military who gave their lives for the freedoms I enjoy.
Thank you for the thousands of military men and women who over the years have sacrificed their lives for others, just like Jesus did for everyone. John 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
This Memorial Day, direct me to think about and remember that many of the blessings I have and enjoy come at a high cost of life to others, and that freedom is not free. Encourage me to appreciate their sacrifices with gratitude. Thank you for the men and women who are now serving our country in the military by defending our freedom.
I ask that You give healing and comfort to those who are living with the devastation of war and terror. As hard as it is, encourage the families of these war heroes to think more of the honor of their loved one’s service than their sacrifice. Bless them with the help they need, whether it be physical, mental, or spiritual.
Give all of these people the understanding that You sent Your Son to die so that all who choose a relationship with You by accepting Jesus as Savior can ultimately reside in Heaven. In the meantime, remind them that they can experience John 14:27 if they have a relationship with You. “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not Your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
In Jesus’ Name, thank you for the benefits of the sacrifice of Jesus and many in the military. Amen.
