Heavenly Father, I come to You today through the Name of Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to thank You for Your Word and the power of the truth found therein. Because Your Word, the Bible, is representative of You, I can feel confident about basing my life around the principles and truths expressed in it. I ask that You give me direction and strength not only to read and hear Your instructions, but to live by them as well.

Thank you for the simple and clear illustration in Matthew 7:24-25 about the importance of having a solid biblical foundation to build on as I grow in my Christian life. Jesus says, “therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on a rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.” It is a blessing to see how this parable illustrates the importance of me building my Christian life by being obedient to the teaching and example of Jesus, the rock foundation.

Show me how to always be a doer of Your Word, and not just a hearer. James 1:22 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Embolden me to follow along the path You have laid out for my life and strengthen me for the tasks yet to come. I want to build my life upon You, for I know You are the only steady rock in the shifting sands around me.

Thank you for the summary of this teaching in the song The Solid Rock:

“My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.”
