God’s Growing Process for Christian Believers

Teaching Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name I come to give You thanks for the learning process You provide for spiritual growth throughout my life. When You adopted me into Your family through the birth, death, and resurrection of Your Son, I became a child of Yours. What an incredible blessing that is. John 1:12But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

Thank you that as Your child, You always want what is best for me. You are willing to do whatever it takes to teach me and shape me through the perfect plan You have for me. The path of growth to being more like Jesus can be difficult and often times it is hard to see the end product. However, I choose to trust You through it, knowing that Your ways are always perfect. Romans 8:28And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

I admit that on my own, I am powerless to grow in faith and purity. I need You to reshape my heart and direct my desires away from sin and evil and unto You. Lead me, through Jesus’ power and direction, to develop more of what is expressed in 1 John 3:7. “Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He [Jesus] is righteous.

My desire is to always have some level of growth (sanctification) evident in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About Coming Joyfully Into God’s Presence (Based on Psalm 100)

Heavenly Father, I come to You through the Name of my Savior, Your Son Jesus, to thank You for the invitation to come joyfully to You for a time of close personal fellowship. You have provided this experience for me by calling me Your son or daughter and giving me the gift to come before You in thanksgiving and praise through prayer and reading Your Holy Word. Psalm 100:4Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His Name.

Forgive me when sometimes I have a prideful attitude or act like I created myself and my little world around me. This produces greediness, and ultimately a loss of hope if not everything goes my way. Psalm 100:3 Know that the LORD, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Direct me through all the chaos and turmoil in this fallen world, to go out into it with Your presence within me. Psalm 100:1 Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!” It is a blessing that every time I come into Your presence about any situation in life, You will always have a positive response. If I am discouraged, You will encourage. If I am in need You will provide, etc. Maybe not always in the way I desire, but always in the way that is best.

Thank you for how this Psalm reminds me that You are the creator and are always good and dependable. You alone are to be praised and worshiped. Psalm 100:5For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.

I love you, Lord. Amen.

Prayer About Jesus’ Teaching on Worry in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:25-34)

Photo taken in Nebraska.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Compassionate Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name I come to give You thanks for being the one I can trust with every detail of my life. You make this clear in Matthew 6:25. “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

Show me the times when I try to take things into my own hands. Forgive me for trusting more in my own intellect and ability than in You. What a foolish statement it is to say, “it is getting so complicated or difficult, I guess I better pray,” rather than praying in the beginning for wisdom and direction. Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Direct me to realize that in all situations, worry can damage my health, negatively affect my actions, consume me, and affect my relationships with others. Encourage me to have genuine concern about problems I see and move into action rather than just worry and become incapacitated.

Since I do not know what tomorrow holds, give me the ability to make plans with Your wisdom and trust You with my future. Matthew 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Lord, thank you for the truth of this statement. “Faith is the victory that overcomes the world” (paraphrase of 1 John 5:4). Amen.

Prayer About Resting in God’s Mercy and Grace

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Loving Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for giving me mercy and grace. It is Your mercy that holds back what I deserve and Your grace that gives me what I don’t deserve. Hebrews 4:16Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

It is such a great blessing in the morning to know that it is because of Your mercy that I am not consumed. You share that promise with me every day. Lamentations 3:23[The Lord’s] mercies are new every morning [thank you]; great is Your faithfulness [thank you].”

The Bible makes it clear that all of my Christian life comes from You through grace. Therefore, it is encouraging to know that You always have an abundant supply available. As Jesus told Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.

Direct me to exemplify Your love, mercy, and grace that I receive from You to others around me. Make it clear to them that they too can experience these attributes of Yours through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Show them that they will never be able to get from other people what only You can give. Whenever I get my focus off of Your ways and experience anxiety and frustration from doing things my own way, remind me of Mathew 11:28. “Come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Thank you for Your peace. Amen.

Miniature Specific Scripture Prayers #33

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

The Lord as Shepherd

Compassionate Heavenly Father, as a believer in Jesus Christ, I come in His Name to thank You for the little word is in the first line of Psalm 23. “The LORD is my shepherd.” It does not say He will be, has been, wants to be, might be, can be. He is.

Giving Praise to the Lord

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, I express my praise to You like in Isaiah 25:1. “O LORD, You are my God. I will exalt You, I will praise Your name, for You have done wonderful things; Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.

Benefits of the Indwelling Holy Spirit

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the gifts of the indwelling Holy Spirit in a believer. 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

God’s Perfect Peace

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the peace You promise in the middle of turmoil. Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.

Freedom in Jesus Christ

Merciful Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the freedom from condemnation the Holy Spirit provides. Romans 8:1There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

The Power of God’s Word

Guiding Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, direct me to practice 2 Timothy 2:15. “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (KJV).

2021 4th of July Prayer

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus Christ’s Name to thank You for this special day that we celebrate in the United States. It became famous in history in 1776 when 13 colonies officially declared independence from England. It is special because it is the day the United Sates was formed and became a free nation. Over the years, there have been attempts at trying to destroy and take away this freedom that we enjoy and many times take for granted. I ask that You remind us as individuals, and as a nation, of Your statement in the Bible in Psalm 33:12a. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.

I ask that You start a revival and a spiritual awakening in our nation through forgiveness, repentance, and turning us back to You. It is only by Your mercy, grace, and restoration in our country that we will be able to continue to experience the blessing of the last 200 years. Therefore, I come to You claiming Hebrews 4:16. “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

I also rest in Your promise in 2 Corinthians 12:9a. Jesus said: ‘”My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.“‘ Thank you for the many who over the years have fought and died for our flag, which stands for freedom and liberty, and represents the beliefs of the citizens of this great country.

With all that is happening in our nation this 4th of July, remind us personally and as a nation that “freedom is not free,” and is worth defending and praying for. Encourage us as believers to follow the example in Psalm 118:5. “I called on the LORD in distress; the LORD answered me and set me in a broad place.

In the powerful Name of Jesus, amen.

Prayer About Keeping My Mind on a Positive Track

Photo taken in Tennessee.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the instruction in Your Word about the control of my mind. You tell me that the mind is what determines my actions, good or bad. Proverbs 23:7aFor as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” You also tell me in Colossians 3:1-2 what You want my mind and thoughts to be focused on. “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

In order to be obedient to these two verses, direct me to ask the following heart searching, difficult questions. Dr. Charles Stanley recommends these questions to determine if you want to follow a thought or get rid of it:

  1. “Where will this thought lead me?”
  2. “Will this thought get me to where I really want to be?”
  3. “Is the thought scriptural?”
  4. “Will the thought build up or tear down?”
  5. “Where did the thought originate?”
  6. “Do I feel guilty about it?”
  7. “Could I share the thought with somebody else?”

-Dr. Charles Stanley

When I have a thought that does not pass these questions, encourage me to practice 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 and Colossians 3:16 for correction. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” Use the instruction in the second verse to help accomplish the first one. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Thank you for making available the powerful tool of Your Word to develop correct and pure thoughts. Amen.

2021 Father’s Day Prayer of Honor and Respect

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to thank You for my father and grandfather (and if deceased, for the memory of them). They have done many things for me, and their influence has shaped my life in many ways that I have taken for granted. The most important and critical was to prepare me to desire a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who has reserved for me an eternal home in Heaven and direction for my life now. Proverbs 22:6Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

I realize that not everyone reading this prayer has had a good relationship with their father. For anyone in this situation, encourage them to keep in mind that You as their Father in Heaven have always and will always care for them as Your child. Your love is unconditional and infinite. In Your Word (the Bible), You tell us that You want to have a close relationship with all of us. In fact, You thought so much of us that You gave Your only begotten Son to die on the cross so that we can have that relationship with You. John 3:16For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For every father and grandfather who has this personal relationship with Jesus, You have promised to give the best of Your spiritual blessings. Regardless of our background, teach us as fathers and grandfathers to trust completely in You for Godly wisdom and spiritual guidance to lead and direct our precious loved ones. Remind us always of Your instruction in Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for Your direction. Amen.

Prayer of Dependence on God in Times of Stress (Based on Psalm 31)

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come to You through the Name of Your Son Jesus to give You thanks and praise for Your constant goodness, especially in stressful times. You remind me in this Psalm, like you did David, that You want to and will be my constant refuge and strength. Verse 3: “For You are my rock and my fortress; therefore, for Your name’s sake, lead me and guide me.” However, like in David’s case, in order for You to intercede on behalf of any problems I might have, I am willing to give myself to completely trusting in You. Verse 5: “Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

In light of all that is expressed in this Psalm, direct me to rest in the fact that You have stored up great things for those who know and fear Your mighty hand. Teach me to put my hope in You, for nothing else can satisfy. Only You can fill my heart with joy and contentment. Everything else will just leave me lacking and miserable. Verse 19: “Oh how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men!

Lord, as I go through life with its many complications and uncertainties, I ask that You constantly take me back to Your Word for encouragement and direction. I would like to be able to say in all situations what David said in verse 14 and 15a: “But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God. My times are in Your hand.’

In Jesus’ precious Name I pray, amen.

Prayer About the Apostle Paul’s Direction for Believers Living in a Divided and Decadent Nation

Photo taken in Florida.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the instruction for believers in Jesus Christ in 1 Corinthians 1:1-9. This is a good way to respond to living in a nation similar to Corinth. Direct me to practice the principles Paul laid out for the Corinthian believers to follow. As Paul did, I thank and praise You for who I am as a believer in Jesus Christ. This is a blessing no one can ever take away from me. 1 Corinthians 1:4-5 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge.

It is a great blessing to meditate on the fact that no matter what happens, You and Your Word are always available for me in every situation. It is Christ that does all the work, and I as a believer receive all the benefits.

Thank you, Jesus, that You are my shepherd and guide me in the “paths of righteousness for [Your] name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of deathPsalm 23:3b-4.

Remind me often that the direction I am going is to be with You in eternity. You will count me free of sin when Christ returns because of what Jesus Christ accomplished through His death on the cross and His resurrection. 1 Corinthians 1:8Who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you for the deep and direct relationship You want with me, which in turn allows me to have a genuine relationship with other believers. To You be all glory. Amen.
