“In the morning, prayer is the key that opens to us the treasures of God’s mercies and blessings. In the evening, it is the key that shuts us up under His protection and safeguard.” ~Henry Ward Beecher

“When I pray for another person, I am praying for God to open my eyes so that I can see that person as God does. ~Philip Yancey

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” ~Jeremiah 29:11-13

“The Word of God and prayer will keep you from sin. Sin will keep you from the Word of God and prayer.” ~Unknown

“Forgiveness and cleansing is very important in a Christian’s prayer life. It is like eating from a dirty bowl versus eating from a clean one. It is always best to clean the dirt from the bowl before using it and to clean our heart and mind before praying. Psalm 66:18 “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear.”‘ ~Elton Streyle

“God will use small vessels, but not dirty ones.” ~Evelyn Christensen

Jesus, the Prince of Peace

Lord, I come to You through Your Son’s Name to thank You for the endless peace and grace You give. Even many years before Jesus was born, it was prophesied that He would be the Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6For unto us a Child is born, unto to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” It is because of Your Son Jesus dying on the cross and His resurrection for our sins and failures that we have the privilege of having peace with You. Romans 5:1Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Thank you that because of my personal relationship with Jesus, I can truly enjoy the peace of God dwelling in me. John 14:27Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

It is Your peace within me that allows me to have peace in situations and with people around me. Mark 9:50bHave peace one with another.” It is such a blessing to have You bring clarity to my confusion, hope to my suffering, and peace to my turmoil. I know that these verses and others allow me to rest secure in You as my source of comfort and peace. I rest in Your promise in Psalm 4:8. “I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Thank you for the privilege of coming to You in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Believer’s Prayer for God’s Protection from Evil

Lord, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the protection You provide for Your children. With so much evil surrounding us on a daily basis, it is a blessing to hear what Jesus said in John 17:15. “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.” Many times You shield us from the attacks of Satan even when we don’t realize it. In 2 Thessalonians 3:3, Paul tells us what You do for us so that we do not have to live in fear. “But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.”

Thank You for giving instructions in Your Word (the Bible) of what You want Your children (believers in Jesus Christ) to do so that You can give the protection that we desire and need. In James 4:7-8a You tell us that with the power of the Holy Spirit living within the believer, we can resist evil and have it flee from us. “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”

Teach me how to use Your Word for both defense and offense when the Evil One tries to distort my thinking and mislead me. I ask that You will continually develop in me the ability to use the armor of God, explained in Ephesians 6:10-20, to defend against evil and to stay true to You. Direct me to have Ephesians 6:10-11 be a daily part of my life. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Thank You for allowing me to bring these requests in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

2019 Back to School Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for this time of the year when many young people are going back to school. Let us not forget the privilege that is ours in America to be educated in many different fields of study.

I want to bring to You my loved ones and friends who will be in school this year. I ask You to give them the ability to comprehend what is being presented and discernment and wisdom to know when something is being taught that is not in agreement with the teaching in Your Word. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5.

Put a hedge of protection around students and teachers to keep them from the influences of wrong theories and teaching. I ask for what Jesus said in the second half of John 17:15. “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.

As these young people and teachers face many kinds of temptations in school, encourage them to daily spend time in Your Word for direction. Make the words in Psalm 119:9 a great desire of theirs. “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.”

If any do not have a relationship with Jesus as their Savior, make that the highest educational priority for them this year.

I bring this prayer in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

God’s Defense for Believers

Lord, I come to You in the name of my great savior and defender, Jesus Christ. I am aware that I am constantly assaulted by the evil one. He takes every opportunity he can find to trip me up and cause as much chaos as possible. I am not strong enough to resist him myself. Therefore, I thank You for the shield of protection You have put around me as expressed by David in 2 Samuel 22:2-3. David said: “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; the God of my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; my Savior, You save me from violence.

It is such a blessing to rest in Your arms knowing that I do not have to fear because You are always on my side. Your presence is always surrounding me and Your love never leaves me. I appreciate so much the message expressed in this beautiful old hymn by Francis Crosby:

Safe in the Arms Of Jesus

Safe in the arms of Jesus, safe from corroding care.
Safe from the world’s temptations; sin cannot harm me there.
Free from the blight of sorrow, free from my doubts and fears; only a few more trials, only a few more tears!

Safe in the arms of Jesus, safe on His gentle breast; there by His love overshadowed, sweetly my soul shall rest.

Direct me to be constantly mindful of Your promise in Psalm 46:1. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Thank you that I have the privilege of bringing these thoughts in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

This method of prayer uses the Lord’s Prayer as a guide for many topics to include in prayer. You can expand these guidelines by adding additional items that come to your mind as you pray.

Our Father:

I come in Jesus’ Name to thank and praise You for being everywhere present, all-knowing, all-powerful and unchanging. You provide salvation, and freedom from fear of the past, present, and future. You give companionship, provide for my needs, healing and protection from Satan, the evil one.

who art in Heaven:

A place of perfect rest and peace. Thank you that everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their personal Savior will have an eternal home there with You.  John 3:15 That whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

hallowed be Thy Name:

Lord, I lift Your Name on high. I praise You for Your awesomeness, revealed through Your creation. Thank you that all who are born again believers can come to You in Jesus’ Name to receive power, strength, and wisdom. Psalm 147:5Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.

Thy kingdom come:

Dominate my thoughts and reign over every part of my life. May all my and other believers’ actions be inspired by Your Spirit. Colossian 1:17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven:

I recognize that and thank You that everything is controlled by You. Therefore, I yield myself to You and ask You to fill and control me with Your Spirit. I trust in You with all my heart lean not on my own understanding. Proverbs 3:5-6Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

give us this day our daily bread:

Thank you that I can trust in You to take care of all my physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional needs. Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

forgive us our sins:

Show me anything that is wrong in my life and any hindrances in my relationship with You. Thank you for dying for my sin on the cross. Direct me to confess all sin to you. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

as we forgive those who have sinned against us:

Direct me to anyone I need to forgive. Remove all bitterness, jealousy, malice, etc. that I might have against another person. Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

Keep me from the things that Satan would like to use to cause me to do wrong. Cover me with the armor of God: the helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, the girdle of truth, the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit. Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever:

I acknowledge that You rule over everything, have all power, all wisdom and are everywhere present. In Jesus’ precious Name, I thank You for the many points of instruction for life in this prayer example, Amen.

God’s Mercy

Merciful Heavenly Father, I come in Your Son’s Name to thank You for Your mercy expressed in Psalm 103:8,10. “The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities.

Dead to Sin, Alive to God

Lord, I come to You as a believer, in Jesus’ Name, to thank You for the message in Romans 6:11-12. “Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

The Beauty of Heaven

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for the future glories promised in Revelation 21:4 for believers in Jesus Christ. “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.

Seeing God’s Awesomeness Through His Creation

Lord, in Jesus’ Name, I ask for more comprehension of Your awesome creation. Psalm 19:1The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.

Destruction of Pride

Heavenly Father, I come in Your Son’s Name to ask the Holy Spirit to show me and correct all my dealings involving pride. Proverbs 16:5Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; though they join forces, none will go unpunished.

Seeking Wise Counsel

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, I ask You to direct me to be open to Godly counsel. Proverbs 15:22Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established.

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the powerful Name of Jesus to thank You for all the wonderful blessings that come from living a life of faith in You. I am comforted when I am in Your arms. I know that I can rest in Your presence and that You will sustain me and protect me from the evil one. I am grateful for the promise and teaching in Psalm 112, which states that, as a believer, if I respect and reverence You, believe Your promises and gladly obey Your directions, I can expect You to completely take care of me. Psalm 112:1Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who delights greatly in His commandments.

Daily teach me to fear You more and understand the awe of Your greatness. Open my eyes to Your all-encompassing strength, knowledge, presence, love, grace, and mercy. Guide me to rely on You for every need that I have. Philippians 4:19And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” It is a great blessing to know that if I completely trust in You, You will take care of me. My fears will subside…even the fear of death. Thank you that faith, respect, and obedience to God will lead to a blessed life.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

2019 4th of July Prayer

Gracious Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, I thank You for the privilege of celebrating the history of the many blessings our nation enjoys. Especially the blessing of our nation allowing us to celebrate the greatest liberty of all, freedom in Jesus Christ. Galatians 5:1Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

I am aware that the freedom in our nation has not come without a huge price for many families. Some have lost loved ones or know someone suffering from the horrors of war. I ask that You make them aware of the special blessing of coming to You for help through Jesus. Hebrews 4:16Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

With all the evil and negativity happening in our land and to our people, America is very much in need of prayer. In order to receive Your blessing as a nation, You tell us in Psalm 33:12a what needs to be done. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Starting with this special holiday, direct us as individuals, and as a nation, to be more dependent on You. We need Your divine protection as individuals, and as a nation, in all areas of life to remain safe, productive and strong. Lead us so that we can continue to be blessed in the future and prayerfully sing the phrase in the song America the Beautiful: “America, America, God shed His grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.”

God bless America. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
