All powerful and wise Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name thankful for and remembering the extraordinary events recorded in Your Word (the Bible). Romans 15:4For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.” It is a great blessing to know that I can read Your Book (the Bible) and know that the God who created the whole world and everything in it, including me, is still the same God. Hebrews 13:8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Thank you for the following examples:
1. In times when I need faith like Noah did building the Ark, direct me to read Genesis 6.

2. In the times when I need deliverance like Daniel did in the lions’ den, to read Daniel 6.

3. When I need encouragement to overcome difficult situations like Moses crossing the Red Sea, to read Exodus 14.

4. If I am having a problem with sin like David did with Bathsheba, to read Psalm 51.

As I read these stories and many others in the Bible, I thank You for Your consistent nature of love, goodness, patience, power, wisdom, mercy and grace. Psalm 145:3Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable.” It is awesome that You, the God who is involved in all these stories, is the same God who is living within me through the Holy Spirit simply because of my accepting the free gift of Your Son Jesus Christ as my Savior. Reading about all of Your past actions encourages me to live life now, and in the future, with confidence instead of fear.

Thank you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About the Work of the Indwelling Holy Spirit

Heavenly Father, I come to You through the Name of my Savior Jesus Christ with a thankful heart for You having the Holy Spirt of God dwell within me. This blessing happened at the time I put my faith in Jesus as my Savior. 1 Corinthians 6:19Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

I acknowledge my dependence on You and that apart from You, there is nothing good. You are the source of all righteousness. 2 Corinthians 3:5Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.” Teach me to let go of my own strength and to recognize that You want to be my comforter and guide me into all truth through the Holy Spirit. By obeying You and Your guidance, I can thwart the constant negative power of the flesh that is still living within me.

It is a beautiful privilege to have Your Holy Spirit lift me up in my times of weakness and distress. In those times when I can’t find the right words to say, I can share my heart with You and You will intercede and straighten out my prayer. Romans 8:26Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

In Jesus’ Name, I ask You to daily direct me to yield myself to the Holy Spirit for full control over all parts of my life. Ephesians 5:18bBe filled with the Spirit.” Amen.

Prayer for Wise, Godly Learning Versus Foolish Failure

All wise Heavenly Father, I humbly come to You through the Name of Jesus, acknowledging that it is only through You that I can obtain true wisdom. You are the source of all knowledge, and apart from You there is no truth. Thank you that I can gain wisdom by studying and trusting Your Word (the Bible) to reveal it to me. Proverbs 2:6-8For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of His saints.

I know when I try to do things in my own strength, it can only lead to disappointment and failure. Forgive me that sometimes, in foolishness, I still try to do things my own way. Direct me to have complete dependence on You each day for Your wisdom and direction. Isaiah 41:13For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘fear not, I will help you.’

Teach me to love Your righteous instruction even through times of discipline. Allow me not to see it as a hinderance, but rather as an opportunity to learn and grow in my faith. Proverbs 12:1Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.

As I read Your Word (the Bible), it is apparent that real success and being able to avoid foolishness come only from reading and acting on the instructions that You (God) lay out. Therefore, I ask You to direct me to be nourished daily from Your Word so that You can bring the greatest sense of order in my life.

Thank you. In the Name of my precious Savior, Amen.

Prayer for New Year’s 2020

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the many spiritual and physical blessings You provided last year. Psalm 84:11For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Some events of the past year have been very difficult and hard for me to understand. However, I ask You to direct me to comprehend and accept what You tell me in Romans 8:28. “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

It is a great blessing that You have given Your powerful Word to me in the Bible. In fact, there are no writings that compare. When we as believers are attacked by Satan, it is quoting Your Word that defeats him. We can try quoting philosophers or other authors, but to no avail.

As I begin this new year, bless me with Psalm 119:18. “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.” When I come to the end of this coming year, may I be able to look back and see that in all instances this verse has been a reality for me.

As I watch the news and see chaos, hatred, bitterness, and evil around the world, encourage me to continually keep my eyes focused on You through worship and praise. Thank you that when all is said and done I can rest in Your promise in Romans 8:38-39. “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In Jesus’ Name, “praise God from whom all blessings flow.”

Prayer for Christmas 2019

Giving Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ wonderful Name to thank You for giving us Your Son. It is a great blessing that not only was He born, but that He died on the cruel cross for our sin and was raised from death. By accepting Him, He gives us an eternal home in Heaven. Luke 2:11For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

It is an encouragement that Jesus’ birthplace, a manger, is a reminder that even when we are doing God’s will, we are not guaranteed a comfortable life. However, as in Mary’s discomfort of having a baby in a stable, every discomfort in Your plan for us has significance. Luke 2:7And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

I ask that this Christmas season You direct me to meditate more on the meaning of Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection than on all the ways society wants me to think about Christmas. I appreciate the many beautiful songs about the Christmas story that You have directed people to compose throughout the years. Many of these songs are still sung today around the world. Try the following prayer exercise using the most popular Christmas carol, Silent Night. Visualize the Christmas story by slowly meditating on the words by reading or singing.

Silent Night
Silent night, holy night, all is calm,
all is bright. Round yon virgin,
Mother and Child, holy infant so tender and mild,
sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, holy night.
Darkness flies, all is light.
Shepherds hear the angels sing,
“alleluia hail the King! Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born.”
Silent night, holy night, guiding star, lend thy light.
See the eastern wise men bring gifts and homage to our King!
Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born.

Thank You too for the non-spiritual activities we enjoy such as beautiful decorations, family, friends, and gifts. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Taking Control of Worry

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

All knowing and powerful Heavenly Father, thank you for promising to take all my burdens and cares upon Yourself. You are the one who created me, so I know I can trust You with the details of my life. Mathew 6:25Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

Forgive me for the times when I get in the mindset that if I don’t worry about something, You might think that I don’t care about it. Remind me often that this is not the case at all; what You want me to do is loosen my grip on the unknown and learn to hold fast to you. Mathew 6:27Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” Show me with Your wisdom and strength how to take each day as it comes, putting my focus on Your plans for me rather than on my own plans.

Thank you for Your promise to sustain me day by day. I know that Your plan for me is good, and I look forward to the things You have planned for me. Direct me to rest in Your instruction in Mathew 6:34. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

In Jesus’ Name, I thank You for these instructions from Your Word, Amen.

Prayer for Our Nation and its Leaders

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to be obedient to what You command us to do in Your Word (the Bible) in regard to our nation and its leaders. In 1 Timothy 2:1-2, Paul urges us to pray for our leaders at all levels of our government. He expresses it this way: “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

I want to give You thanks for how You have put in place all our government leaders from the President down to the local level. It is because of this that we can function as a society with order, direction, and wisdom. Encourage all of us, wherever possible, to follow those You have put in leadership over us.

Direct us to understand and accept that all authority comes from You, whether we are a leader or a follower. Paul shares in Romans 13:1 how this is to work. It reads as follows: “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.

I ask that You direct our President, Vice-President, Congress, state, county, city, and school leaders to lead with a spirit of humility, to lay aside selfishness, and treat others with respect and common courtesy. Let them consider the interests of those they lead to be more important than their own.

Encourage me as we enter into another election season to be faithful, informed, and thoughtful when praying for our nation and its current and future leaders.

I bring these requests in Jesus’ wonderful Name, Amen.

Prayer on the Advantages of Living With an Eternal Perspective

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Compassionate Heavenly Father, I come to You through the Name of Jesus to thank You for the saving work Your Son did on the cross. Through His spilled blood and torn flesh, I have had the opportunity to be brought into a new life not needing to be controlled by sin. Romans 5:10For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

I ask that You give me the perspective to see my eternal worth through Your eyes and the lens of redemption, not of shame. Allow me to not only realize this, but also to act on it and live accordingly. Romans 5:9Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Teach me to evaluate the things that I do and say through an eternal perspective. Give me the wisdom and strength to remove that which is not edifying and increase that which is of eternal significance. Mold my priorities and interests to Your will and bring me closer to You each day. Show me how to best minister to those around me.

I am blessed that I can find my hope in You, a hope that does not disappoint. Romans 5:5Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for Your many attributes (all knowing, ever present, unchanging, merciful, almighty, etc.) that are enough to handle any situation in my life. Amen.
