Prayer About Godly Life Lessons to Follow from Noah Building the Ark (Based on Genessis 6-8)

Photo taken in South Dakota.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for recording in the Bible Noah’s example of living a godly, obedient life. His story illustrates that when evil is all around me, I can still have a good relationship with You. Although I am far from perfect, by following Noah’s example I can find what he did in Genessis 6:8. “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” I ask that You teach me how to listen to You like Noah did. You gave him detailed instructions on how to build the ark and showed him what was needed to care for his family and the many animals during their time on the ark. Genesis 6:21 And you shall take for yourself of all the food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.

Develop in me a trust in You and Your Word like Noah had. It must have been difficult for him to trust for so many years that he was hearing correctly and following Your exact instructions. But he did, and I should also. Genesis 6:22Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.” Direct me to have the unwavering faith of Noah when I follow Your commands to me.

Thank you for the great lesson I can learn from this story that when You speak through Your Word and Spirit, I should listen, follow, trust, and obey. Thank you for the physical reminder of this story that comes when You show a beautiful rainbow in the sky, signifying that You made a covenant that there will never be a worldwide flood again. Genessis 9:13I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About the Trustworthiness of God’s Word (Based on Psalm 12 and 33)

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Trustworthy Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Your perfect Son, Jesus Christ, to give You thanks and praise for the trustworthiness of Your Word, the Bible. There is no other book or writing in the world that has the accuracy, validity, and breath of life that the Bible has. David reflects on Your words as pure and dependable. Psalm 12:6The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

It is a blessing that You have given concrete evidence that allows me to fully trust in Your Word. You have shown time and again that Your Scriptures have been, and continue to be, faithful in the promises You have made. Looking at the many prophecies in Your Word that have been fulfilled in the past, I can rest assured that all future ones will come to pass as well. One of the best examples of this is all that was predicted in the Bible to happen, and has happened, surrounding Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection.

I ask for forgiveness for the times when I fail to read, trust, and use this powerful gift (Your Word) that You have given to me. Thank you for the strong Christian foundation I can build from Your Word and that I can cling to every promise You have made to me. Direct me into an even deeper, more trusting relationship with You as I continue to read and explore Your written Word and meditate on it. Psalm 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right, and all His work is done in truth.” It is a blessing that You are perfectly holy and that Your Word can be completely trusted. Your character of faithfulness is proven, and You magnify Your Word above everything, including Jesus’ Name. Psalm 138:2bFor You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

I put my trust in You, and You alone. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About Living a Set Apart Life with God (Based on 1 Peter 1:15-16)

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to thank You for calling me to live a set apart life unto You. It is a blessing to see You continually develop in my life the command in 1 Peter 1:15-16. “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.’

Thank you that You not only give the command for me to live a separated life from the ungodly culture and its ways, but also give me a way to accomplish this. It is because of my personal relationship with Jesus Christ that I can give myself to You and have You direct me to follow the guidelines You have laid out for living in a fallen world. Romans 12:1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Direct me to be constantly aware that being set apart for You involves more than just avoiding certain behaviors and customs, but begins and is firmly founded in my mind. It is only the Holy Spirit dwelling within me that can truly transform by renewing, reeducating, and redirecting the mind to having true value in God’s eyes. Romans 12:2aAnd do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Give me the desire and courage to be different from the world and to honor You instead. May my life in private and in public have a positive influence on what people think of the God I love and serve.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About Living the Christian Life Using God’s Knowledge (Based on Proverbs 2)

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

All wise Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for putting all the knowledge that I need for living the Christian life into Your Word (the Bible). It is a great gift that You give to me and all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is wisdom that I cannot create with my own initiative, but takes study of Your Word to develop and use. Verse 6-7: “For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly.

Thank you for how Your knowledge and wisdom direct me to avoid foolishness and ruin. I confess to You and ask forgiveness for the times when I act before asking for Your knowledge from Your Word so that I may have godly discretion about all situations. Verse 10-11: “When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you.” I thank You for what is expressed by Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:12. The Holy Spirt gives me the ability to understand and believe what can only be understood spiritually. “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.”

Thank you for sending Your Son Jesus to represent Your power and wisdom. I can never be in a place where You are not available to help. Direct me to experience all that You say about wisdom so that Proverbs 3:13 is a reality in my life. “Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Salvation by God Alone

Saving Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you that salvation is fully completed by You. Titus 3:5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

Understanding God’s Word

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, direct me to comprehend and practice Psalm 119:17-18. “Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word. Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.”

God is Truth

Truthful Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ wonderful Name, thank you that I can trust in all of Your truthful character. Titus 1:2In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.

Indwelling Holy Spirit

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you that as a believer in Jesus Christ I have You, through the Holy Spirit, dwelling within me even with an imperfect nature. Ezekiel 36:27aI will put My Spirit within you.”

Practicing Humility

Loving Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, direct me to practice James 4:10. “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

Renewing the Mind

All wise Heavenly Father, I ask in Jesus’ Name that You daily make Romans 12:2 new to me. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Prayer About God, Our Helpful Heavenly Father (Based on Isaiah 41:10)

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

In Jesus’ Name, all powerful, all knowing, everywhere present, unchanging, and merciful Heavenly Father, I thank You that I can bring all my anxieties and burdens to You to be resolved. Psalm 37:3-4Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Direct me to understand and use the instructions in Your Word (the Bible) on to how to deal with the problems and burdens that life presents. Teach me when I am weak to let go and give my situations to You, who is strong and powerful. Show me how this means letting go and letting God, which is a moment-by-moment choice that needs to be my daily lifestyle. Isaiah 41:10Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Make me aware of any burdens that I am carrying from the past that I can do nothing about, or potential problems in the future that I am dwelling on now. These things only take away from my ability to focus on Your goodness. Give me the strength and wisdom to transfer ownership of my burdens from myself to You.  As the hymn Burdens Lifted at Calvary says, remind me to “cast Your care on Jesus today, leave your worry and fear; burdens are lifted at Calvary, Jesus is very near.

It is a great blessing in the difficult and uncertain times we are living in to know and rest in what You express in Lamentations 3:22-23. “Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

The Blessing of Hope (Certainty) in God for Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Encouraging Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, with all the evil, discouraging news and hatred in the world, thank you for providing hope for me, a born-again believer in Jesus Christ. This hope has been made available because of Jesus dying on the cross and being resurrected from death. 1 Peter 1:3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

It is a blessing that You have a long-term plan for my life, regardless of what my immediate circumstances might be. With You there are no hopeless situations.  Jeremiah 29:11 “‘For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.‘”  Thank you for sharing that it is only by trusting and following the process for spiritual growth and development as laid out in Your Word, the Bible, that I can be assured of the hope You have promised for my future.

Because I am limited in my abilities and vulnerable while living in this world, it is a blessing to read Your promise in 2 Corinthians 12:9b. “‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’” Direct me away from the danger of the misplaced hopes of the world that keep me from anchoring myself in You. Continually show me that my hope is based on my relationship with You. Give me confidence in Your promise that You are working for my ultimate good in all things, especially those I don’t understand. Romans 8:28 tells me, “and we know that all things work together [illness, problems, failure, betrayal, etc.] for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose..” Strengthen my hope in You as I read Your Word, pray, believe who You say You are, and worship with fellow believers.

 In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Using Valentine’s Day 2023 as a Reminder to Praise and Thank God for His Love (Based on 1 John 4:8)

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Loving Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to acknowledge before You that love is central to who You are. In fact, 1 John 4:8 says that “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” You have shown love to humanity many times throughout history, and to me in my own life. Thank you for the following ways You have revealed Your love to me: (list your own experiences here).

I praise and thank You for the way You love me unconditionally. When I chose to accept Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and to follow Him, I became Your child, assuring me of an eternal home in Heaven. John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” As Your child, what Paul wrote in Romans 8:38-39 is true for me as well. “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This Valentine’s Day, remind me not only of Your love for me, but also that it is designed to be extended to others. All of my actions should be “rooted and grounded in love,” as Ephesians 3:17b says. Direct me to follow Your command in 1 John 4:11Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Thank you for Your perfect love. To You be all honor, glory, and praise. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Jesus’ Teaching About Prayer (Based on Luke 11:1-4)

Photo taken in Nebraska.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to praise and thank You for Your Word, the Bible. You give instruction on how I can live a life that is pleasing and honoring to You. You have detailed everything that I need for my Christian walk. I am especially thankful for the teaching Your Son gives in Luke 11:1-4 on how to pray effectively. Direct me to follow the instruction that Jesus gave to His disciples to first spend some time in praise and thanksgiving before making requests. Doing this gets me into the right mindset to focus on You instead of coming to You with a shopping list of things that I need. Jesus said in verse 2: “‘When you pray, say: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’” This teaching is confirmed in Psalm 100:4. “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.  Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”

Thank you for the next lesson You want me to learn. Just like the disciples, You want me to be dependent on You. The provision You have for me is daily and will not carry me through if I only communicate with You on an occasional basis. Verse 3:Give us day by day our daily bread.

Thank you for sharing, throughout the Bible, what seems to be the cornerstone of all prayer.  That key element is the importance of forgiveness in my relationship with You and with other believers.  Psalm 66:18If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear.” Since Jesus has forgiven me, direct me to be aware that I must do the same with anyone who has wronged me. Doing this will eliminate the tool of unforgiveness that Satan likes to use to tempt me with evil activities. Verse 4a: And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.

I ask You to continually teach me to model my praying after these instructions from Your Son. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About Living by God’s Wisdom (Based on Psalm 111)

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

All wise Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for so willingly sharing Your unlimited wisdom with me, a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.  I acknowledge what You share in Psalm 111, that Your way is perfect and that living in Your wisdom and trusting in Your Name is the only true way to a godly life. Verse 2-3The works of the LORD are great, studied by all who have pleasure in them. His work is honorable and glorious, and His righteousness endures forever.” I recognize that my own incapable way of living leads to meaninglessness and ruin. Without You, I am like a lost sheep, with neither purpose nor hope.

Direct me to accept that the only way to become truly wise is to fear (revere) You, and that You are the source of all true wisdom.  Show me how to practice verse 10 in everything that I do by honoring You through praise, worship, prayer, and obedience to Your commandments. “The fear [reverence] of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.”

Forgive me for the times I seek the easy way out by expecting You to solve my problems with no action taken on my part. Remind me of the Scriptures’ teaching that many times You have something for me to learn from difficult circumstances. There are multiple examples in Your Word, the Bible, showing that You want me to ask for wisdom and reassuring me that You will give it in order that I may learn how to handle any situation according to Your plan and purpose.  Thank you that I can find hope, encouragement, and peace in Your infinite and perfect wisdom, which gives me a life full of meaning and driven by the pursuit of Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
