Renewal of the Mind

Lord, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the promise and encouragement in 2 Corinthians 4:16b. “Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.”

Awesomeness of the Human Body

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the wonder of the human body. “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” Psalm 139:14a.

Deliverance from Evil

Heavenly Father, I come in Your Son’s Name to ask You to always guide me away from evil, as it is expressed in Psalm 141:4. “Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men who work iniquity; and do not let me eat of their delicacies.”

Jesus as Mediator

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, and thereby allowing me to approach You. 1 Timothy 2:5-6 “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

Reaping What We Sow

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to ask You to enable me to practice the second part of Galatians 6:8 and refrain from doing the first part. “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”

Sufficiency of God’s Grace

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for Your promise of grace expressed in 2 Corinthians 12:9. Jesus said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Experiencing the Blessing of New Life in Christ

Loving Father, I come in in the Name of Your Son Jesus to give You praise and thanks for the blessing of new life in Christ. Through my spiritual rebirth I have become a new creation. I no longer have to live under the weight of sin, but can live in righteousness. Romans 6:11Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” I appreciate that now that Christ is living in me, I can have Your life flow through me, and Your love and power will completely engulf my previous life. 2 Corinthians 5:17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” I ask for forgiveness for the times I find myself asking for Your power or strength like it is far away instead of acknowledging that Your power and love is already dwelling within me by the means of the Holy Spirit.

Your Holy Spirit is alive in me and gives me access to immeasurable power and wisdom. Teach me to depend on Your strength and adequacy, and not my own inadequacy. It is You alone that provides the framework from which I have the privilege to extend Your love to others and show them Your love and great power. Thank you that when I am tempted to think or do wrong by the enemy of my soul, I can quote Your Word to him and remind him that my life is now based on all that is encompassed in Galatians 2:20. “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Thank you for allowing me to bring this prayer in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

God Listens to Those Who Call

Heavenly Father, I come in the Name of Jesus to thank You for Your presence in my life. I appreciate the fact that You always listen when I call out Your Name. In times of trouble, I can rely on You to be there no matter how insignificant I may feel at the time or how insignificant my problems may seem compared to the problems of others. You not only hear me, but act upon my prayers in Your sovereign timing. Psalm 34:17The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

You know the desires and the inner workings of my heart, and I am trusting that You know what is best. Even when things are not going as I had planned, You are still there and listening. Sometimes You are silent, but I know that it is not from a lack of caring. Rather, it may be a way of getting my attention. Teach me to be patient in times of silence and wait to hear from You. Micah 7:7Therefore I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.

I recognize that it is only through the work of Jesus dying on the cross and His resurrection and saving grace that I can be seen as righteous in Your eyes. 1 Peter 3:12aFor the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers.” It is such a blessing to have the privilege of learning from Your Word (The Bible) and communicating with You in prayer.

Thank You for allowing me to bring these thoughts to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Drawing Close to God

Lord, I come to You today in the Name of Your Son Jesus. Thank you for the instruction in Your Word about how if I draw close to You, You will draw close to me. “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-mindedJames 4:8. I realize from this verse and many others that You want to draw close to me and have a personal relationship with me.

Remind me daily that one of my greatest needs for developing closeness with You, in addition to reading my Bible and praying, is to have very short accounts with regard to sin. You tell me in Psalm 66:18 that if I do not take care of sin in my life, You do not even hear me. “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear.”

Thank you for providing a way in 1 John 1:9 for me to be able to clear up my communication line with You. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Direct me to always have an open line of communication with You. Show me through Your Word and prayer how You can direct me onto the straight path of righteousness.

I ask that 2 Corinthians 2:14 will always be true in my life. “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

Thank you that I can bring this prayer in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

A Prayer Based on Psalm 27

Lord, in Jesus’ Name, I thank You for being my light, my salvation, and my strength in this dark world. Though some may come against me to try to make me anxious, or even destroy me, You have promised that You will not allow that to happen. Verse 1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” Like David, I ask that You will direct me to constantly seek after You so that I will be able to enjoy my relationship with You continually.

Do not hide Your face from me when I cry out to You for help, but answer me with Your mercy and grace. Verse 5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.”

Father, give me a teachable spirit, then lead me on the path of righteousness laid out in Your Holy Word. Sometimes, waiting for answers is very difficult, especially if there is a long time frame involved. It can seem as if You do not see the urgency of my situation. Forgive me for that kind of thinking because it implies that You are not in control. Instead, help me to see waiting time as a tool that You use to teach me about the many blessings You have for me. Make real in my life Your words in Verse 14. “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!

I bring this prayer in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

*** After each verse, think about the main point made and then give thanks to God ***

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the many Scripture promises in Your Bible.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Psalm 103:8-10 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Lamentations 3:22-23 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.

Lord, I appreciate these promises in Your Word, just a few among many. Every promise in the book is mine. Therefore, I bring my praise to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

The Blessings of Forgiveness and Cleansing

Forgiving Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for providing a way for me to have my conscience and heart purified. Your Word tells me that there is no deed or thought that is so evil that it cannot be washed by the blood of the Lamb and be removed from my mind and life. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Your Scriptures have much to say about the destruction and hurtfulness of sin. Therefore, I pause for a little while and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to me any sin in my life. Direct me to confess it to Jesus and have it removed. Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Show me how to live out Psalm 119:36-37 to keep me from all that takes me away from You. “Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to covetousness. Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way.”

Lastly, Father, there is another part of the process of forgiveness and cleansing for which I need Your direction: give me the grace to forgive others the way You have forgiven me. Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

In Jesus’ Name, thank you for Your mercy and grace. Amen.

**For full context you may want to read the verses before and after the verses included in this prayer.**

Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to ask You to lead as I pray these Scriptures for my loved ones. I ask You to give them spiritual knowledge, wisdom, discernment, and revelation as found in Ephesians 1:17-18. “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to [name of child] the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.”
Lead my loved ones to act on Ephesians 4:22-24. “That you put off, concerning  your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Encourage each one to allow the Holy Spirit to fill and guide them to do away with instinctive actions. Romans 8:14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
For any that are in a marriage relationship, show them how to live according to Ephesians 5:21. “Submitting to one another in the fear of God.”
Thank you for allowing me to pray these Scriptures back to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

“Prayer is not the last resort. It is the first and most effective line of attack.” ~Sheila Walsh

“When we work, we work, but when we pray, God works.” ~Max Lucado

“We look upon prayer as getting things for ourselves but the Bible’s idea of prayer is that we may know God.” ~Oswald Chambers

“True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor vocal performance. It is far deeper than that. It is a spiritual exercise with the Creator of heaven and earth.” ~Charles Spurgeon

“We must be alert in prayer. This means we must be aware as we pray. What should we be aware of? The schemes of Satan. The enemy want to distract you from prayer. He wants your mind to drift and your heart to be troubled. If we expect these things, we can counteract them by focusing more intently on the task before us- communicating with God.” ~Charles Stanley

“Maintaining a strong prayer life is easier than having to regain it.” ~Elton Streyle

“Prayer is the mechanism that brings down the power of heaven into your experience. It is the divinely authorized method that activates your spiritual armor and makes it effective. Prayer alerts the enemy to your awareness of his intentions while safeguarding you from his attacks.” ~Priscilla Shirer
