Heavenly Father, I come into Your presence through prayer in the Name of Jesus Christ my Savior who died on the cross for me. Thank you for the instruction and admonishment in Your Word (the Bible) about the problem with self. I acknowledge that there are times I view myself as top priority. I look at my own interests and needs at the expense of others. However, that is not how You want me to live my Christian life.

You give me the answer in Galatians 6:3. “For if anyone thinks of himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.” Direct me to be aware of any selfish, prideful attitudes in my life. When needed, encourage me to confess and repent of these attitudes. In any situation, remind me of the question, “who is in charge? God or me?”

Thank you for expressing in Your Word the example of Jesus that You want me to follow. Philippians 2:7 “But [Jesus] made of Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.” Give me a trusting heart to know that I can’t be selfish and content at the same time, and that You are always good. Under Your direction, I can put away self with confidence, knowing that Your plans are much better than anything I can come up with. Jeremiah 29:11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Father, what a blessing it is to be a child of Yours and to have You and Your Word as a guide in my life. “To God be the glory, great things He has done.” Amen.
