Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to be obedient to what You command us to do in Your Word (the Bible) in regard to our nation and its leaders. In 1 Timothy 2:1-2, Paul urges us to pray for our leaders at all levels of our government. He expresses it this way: “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.”
I want to give You thanks for how You have put in place all our government leaders from the President down to the local level. It is because of this that we can function as a society with order, direction, and wisdom. Encourage all of us, wherever possible, to follow those You have put in leadership over us.
Direct us to understand and accept that all authority comes from You, whether we are a leader or a follower. Paul shares in Romans 13:1 how this is to work. It reads as follows: “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.”
I ask that You direct our President, Vice-President, Congress, state, county, city, and school leaders to lead with a spirit of humility, to lay aside selfishness, and treat others with respect and common courtesy. Let them consider the interests of those they lead to be more important than their own.
Encourage me as we enter into another election season to be faithful, informed, and thoughtful when praying for our nation and its current and future leaders.
I bring these requests in Jesus’ wonderful Name, Amen.
