Gracious Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for allowing me another year to live on this Earth. I ask for Your guidance in the year ahead. James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” It seems like this past year went by quickly, so direct me not to forget what You did and what You taught me in 2022.

Bring to my mind, like the stones of remembrance did for Israel in Joshua 4:1-8, the times You moved in my life in 2022. Joshua 4:7 “‘Then you shall answer them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.‘” I praise You for the following things that You did for me and through me: _______. I know that I can trust You, the One who never changes. Malachi 3:6a‘For I am the LORD, I do not change:’” You were faithful in 2022, and You will remain faithful in 2023, no matter what my circumstances may be.

I ask that You continue to grow my trust in You. Proverbs 3:56 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Give me the proper perspective to see You at work in my life this new year. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

2022 Christmas Prayer (Based on Isaiah 9:6)

Author: Ali, Contributor: Elton Streyle and Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Wonderful Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the meaning of Christmas. Christmas marks the beginning of Your work on Earth through Jesus Christ. Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” I ask that You direct me to live out the words of the traditional Christmas song O Come All Ye Faithful this season. The song calls us to adore Christ and worship Him.

Your Word, the Bible, directs me to worship You not only by singing hymns and songs of praise, but by sharing the Gospel with others. 1 Chronicles 16:23-24 Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.” Give me the courage to use Christmas as an opportunity to tell others about You.

Just as the shepherds and the wisemen came to worship Jesus, direct me to do the same. Luke 2:20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.” Keep me from missing the significance of this holiday in the midst of all the hustle and bustle of the season. Remind me that Christmas is about what John 1:14 declares: “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Thank you for this opportunity to celebrate Jesus’ birth with family, friends, and special traditions. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About Living in the Light of the Lord Jesus Christ (Based on John 8:12)

Photo taken in Yellowstone National Park.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the powerful Name of the Lord Jesus Christ to thank You for the light that Jesus brought when He came from Heaven to Earth.  John 8:12 expresses clearly what He is. “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’

Because of what Your Son did on the cross, all have the opportunity to believe and have salvation. When one makes that decision, Jesus lights up every part of life. Thank you for the light Jesus brings to my mind and how He sets me free from intellectual darkness.  When darkness comes, You give just enough light for the road I am on. It is the light of Christ in my mind that gives me understanding and assurance of Your sovereignty.

Thank you that through the work of the Holy Spirt, I have the light of Christ dwelling within me, which gives me all the treasures of God’s wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 2:3In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Put a desire in my heart and mind to always read Your Word, which brightens the light of Jesus within me and exposes all the works of darkness. I ask that the light You have given me not be hidden, but that You give me the courage to shine for Christ for all to see. Matthew 5:16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Since the light of Jesus is the ultimate gift, direct me to never cease to praise and thank You for it, and to share it with everyone I can.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Attributes of God to Keep in Mind When Praying About Chaotic Situations in Life and the World (Based on Joshua 1:9)

Photo taken in Yellowstone National Park.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

All wise Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to thank You for the encouragement You speak to me through Your Word in these uncertain times in life and the world we live in. Direct me to pray with trust in the fact that You are everywhere and are in control of all circumstances, just as You told Joshua in Joshua in 1:9. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

It is encouraging to know that in addition to You being in control, there are many Scripture verses that emphasize that You are always good, even if there are some in the world who deny that. Nahum 1:7 “The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him.” Psalm 100:5For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.

Another attribute for me to think about is that You are just. I do not have to be concerned whether justice will be served. What You told Israel in Deuteronomy 32:4 is still true today. “He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He.” No matter what happens, I can also depend on You to be faithful. 1 Corinthians 10:13aNo temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful.

Sometimes, as hard as it may be, I ask You to direct me to think about these attributes when I face or hear about difficult situations:

  • God is in control
  • God is good
  • God is just
  • God is faithful

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving for God’s Promises

Photo taken in Kansas.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come in Jesus’ Name to thank You for promising that since I have accepted Jesus Christ as Savior, my name will be in the Book of Life at the time of Your future Great White Throne of Judgement. Consequently, I will not be judged for my sin because Christ dying on the cross took care of that. Revelation 20:15And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”

Since You promise rewards for born again believers at the Judgement Seat of Christ and my works are written down in another book determining what my rewards will be, direct my activities to be what they need to be to lay up treasures in Heaven. Jesus said in Revelation 22:12, “And behold, I come quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.

It is a blessing that, in addition to the promises about Heaven, You have given me many guidelines for living life here on Earth, such as promising peace if I come to You for guidance about all my concerns with an attitude of praise and thanksgiving. I ask You to direct me to turn all my worries into prayers so that I can enjoy the peace that only You can give. Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

When I read my Bible, make me conscious of more of Your promises so that I can make a list of them to use when needed. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About Lessons from the Great Heroes of Faith (Based on Hebrews 11)

Photo taken in Colorado.

Author: Ali, Contributor: Elton Streyle, Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Faithful Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ Name to thank You for the lessons of faith displayed in Hebrews 11. I ask You to continually strengthen my faith, because I want it to be the most essential part of my life. I confess and ask forgiveness for the times when this has not been the case. Hebrews 11:6a But without faith it is impossible to please Him…

Remind me that my faith should result in righteous action, like Noah building the ark after You warned him of the coming flood. Hebrews 11:7By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.” Direct me to follow Your commands even when I do not understand all the details. Hebrews 11:8By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

Faith invites Your work in my life, but it does not guarantee that Your work will be completed in my timing. It may well be like the people in Hebrews 11:13. “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them.” Even when Your promises are not fulfilled in my lifetime, let me continue to trust You, and keep me from doubting Your faithfulness.

Show me that even though following You requires sacrifice, it will be worth it in the end. Hebrews 11:24-26 By faith Moseschoosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.” Direct me to read and be encouraged by the rest of the examples of great faith in this chapter.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Thanks and Praise to God for What the Names of Jesus Represent

Photo taken in South Dakota.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, I come in the Name of your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to thank You for describing Jesus’ attributes by the Names that He is called in the Bible. All of the Names represent who He is and what He is doing. One of the most critical Names that I am grateful for is what His resurrection means and that He has power over death. Jesus said in John 11:25b, “‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.‘”

Another Name that is a blessing for believers is where You, Jesus, describe yourself as a Vine. You make it clear that without a good relationship with You, we accomplish nothing. We have to be completely dependent on You for spiritual life. John 15:5I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” Thank you for this Name used for Jesus that is simple and easy to relate to.

You also call Yourself “the Bread of Life.” Just as I eat bread to take care of my physical hunger, You invite me to have a daily walk with You to sustain my spiritual life. John 6:35And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.’

It is a blessing as I walk through this dark world, that just as in the Old Testament when the pillar of fire represented God’s presence, protection, and guidance, You (Jesus) represent these same attributes for me today. John 8:12Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.

Thank you for the powerful messages represented in these Names, as well as many others in the Bible. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer About Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Based on John 14:6)

Author: Ali, Contributor: Elton Streyle and Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Photo taken in Colorado.

Heavenly Father, I come to You in Jesus’ powerful Name to thank You for His sacrifice on the cross for me. Thank you that He rose again on the third day and washed me clean from my sin, freeing me from being enslaved to it. Romans 6:6-7 Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.

You promise in John 8:32 that You will allow me to know and understand Your truth. “‘And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. You make Your truth clear in Your Word, the Bible, especially the truth of salvation in Christ alone through faith alone. John 14:6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’

Through Your Son, You have bridged the gap between my sin and Your holiness. Ephesians 2:13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” This grace is not limited to select groups of people, but is available as a free gift to all who accept it. Direct me to never lose sight of Jesus as the way, the truth, the life, and reassurance of my salvation. Thank you that all who have not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior can do so freely. Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Doing Difficult Tasks (Based on the Book of Nehemiah)

Photo taken in Utah.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

Heavenly Father, in the Lord Jesus’ Name, I thank You for providing in the Bible the example of Nehemiah’s prayer life. He accomplished something that seemed like an impossible task. He prayed 11 times and was successful with answers for building the wall in 52 days. This is a good example for me to see what can be done when God is directing those who honor Him. The first lesson shown is that after Nehemiah saw the stress and devastation his people went through, he didn’t just got to work with his own abilities and skills, but he developed a prayerful and deliberate plan for rebuilding the wall. He set everything else aside to spend time with God for direction and wisdom. Nehemiah 1:4So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.”

You make it clear in another of his prayers that Nehemiah was sensitive to the fact that sin had to be confessed before expecting God to work.  Nehemiah 1:6…I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned.”

Thank you for sharing Nehemiah’s eight examples of spontaneous, emergency telegram prayers to Heaven, which he was able to use because he had earlier established a close relationship with You in extended prayer. For example, in Nehemiah 2:4, “Then the King said to me, “What do you request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven” (emphasis added). He needed an immediate answer.

It is a blessing that You recorded the examples of Nehemiah’s prayers, consisting of praise, thanksgiving, repentance, specific requests, and commitment. Direct me to develop and follow the pattern of his praying. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

God’s Instruction for Christian Living Expressed by Paul (Based on Colossians 3:12-17)

Photo taken in Yellowstone National Park.

Author: Elton Streyle, Contributor: Noah, Photography and Editing: Ali

All wise Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus Christ to give You thanks for instructing me on how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ.  You make it very clear in this portion of Scripture that I need to have a forgiving spirit toward anyone who has wronged me. Direct me to forgive in light of Your Son’s ultimate sacrifice on the cross for my sins.  Thank you for providing Your Son as a living symbol of Your unlimited forgiveness. Verse 13: “Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”

Direct me to draw my attention to Your Word and allow You to teach and shape me into the vessel You want me to be. Verse 16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Above all else, show me how to meet the needs of brothers and sisters in Christ with an attitude of love. You want me to work together with other believers for Your honor and glory, regardless of our differences of opinion at times. Verse 14: “But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” Lord, it is such a blessing that I do not have to figure out on my own how to live the Christian life, but can do it by the direction of Your Word.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
